Hi,

I received a pretty messed up EPS logo the starts making funny things when i scale it up or down. When i scale it up everything is proportional except the logo outlines - which become thinner. When i scale it down at a certain point it is just a black blob (basically the outline covering the filling). So everything is proportional except the outline thickness.

It's kind of a cartoon character logo the has lots and lots of objects (maybe around 60-100 individual obejcts).
Besides converting it to outlines (which i can not even use on that logo...???) what other solution is there to fix this problem.

I need to scale it to a smaller size but this only works for me if i open it in Corel Draw and resize it (for some reason it works great in Corel Draw) - save it as an EPS again and reopen it in Illustrator in the size i need it.

I appreciate any feedback!

Thanks Casi

You need to go into your Illustrator preferences and click on "Scale Strokes and Effect" (or something like that) in one of the panels.

There should be a check box in Preferences that will scale fill and stroke and you will find the same check box in the scale window if you double click the scale tool. If the box is checked than the stroke should scale with the rest of the image. What version of Illustrator are you using?

No problem. I space on easy stuff all the time so I know how it feels.

I bet this has come up a hundred times in here. It's one of those defaults that makes you wonder what in the hell Adobe was thinking. And it's stayed the default setting for many versions now. I guess there must be some, but off hand I can't really think of any circumstances where you wouldn't want the strokes and effects to scale. http://home.comcast.net/~rnick9/koolsmiley.gif

Badboo, please don't double post. Thanks

I have merged the two threads into one under the Adobe section.

There is "one" instance where I didn't want the lines to scale, on some of my digital drawings that I copy over into Photoshop, I felt the lines were too thin when you scaled them down in Photoshop, so I used Illustrator to scale down the drawings (without scaling the stroke) and that was a workaround for that issue.

But yeah, scaling should be the default.

Another thing which can be done if you are dead sure that you won't be changin it every 5 minutes (though it does add to the complexity and size of yer image) is to simply outline all your strokes once it is complete. One less potential nasty surprise when you come to print the job.

Ha I knew there had to be one :D I thought of a similar situation after I posted.
