hi: my question is
How do you save a transparent background using illustrator for an image that is going to be used in microsoft word?

(MS Word - run for the hills :(  )MS Word can import eps files, these can be created from Illustrator.

You can import the EPS but I don't think Word will recognize the transparency. I believe it flattens the file.
I could be wrong. Certainly wouldn't be the first time.
Depending on what you are working on you might be better off taking what you're doing in Word and importing it into Illustrator or, if you have it, InDesign.

I did a test...and it did work (least it did for the one example that I tried)

I also tried that. I saved the logo as eps ( in illustrator) then I tried to open it in word, and nothing appeared........

If it's vector in AI, the best is to export to a WMF or an EMF. If it's raster transparency... different story. Probably best to open the AI file in Photoshop (where transparency will be preserved), and save to the PNG format with transparency support intact.

(that I have figured out how to do this by no means implicates me as a MS Word user :o )
The MS Word equivalent of the Illustrator 'place' command is insert>picture>from file

thank you so much broacher! I did what you told me and it worked perfectly. The image preserved its transparency and the original color of the logo.
thanks again. :-D
