Mein fuhrer is getting the Adobe CS 2 Suite and we're still on a iMac G3 machine (soon to run Tiger). Now I know what to expect as far as speed goes, but the system requirements list only G4 and G5 processors.

My only concern is some sort of stupid nag screen Adobe puts in that prevents you from installing CS2 on a G3. So can CS2 be installed on a G3? I was able to install the original CS Suite on my G3 laptop, so I don't know why Adobe would prevent this, but it's good to know.

I don't know for sure but some resellers have the minimum specs G3, G4, G5. I heard there is an installation error for people without enough ram. I haven't used InDesign since v1.0 and I know that was a very bad build - but our old 400mhz G3 tower choked on it. I couldn't set a business card without slowdowns. I cant imagine running CS2 on a G3, but thats not your problem anymore is it?

I just got bumped up to 768MB of RAM, so that should be "decent." My Adobe Suite CS on my G3 laptop is no speed demon, but totally acceptable. (But I have only 384MB of RAM on that laptop). I have yet to install Adobe Illustrator CS2 on that laptop, so that's something I'll try and do tonight and see what happens.

You are just going to squeeze in right at the requirements - the minimum is 384 and will not install on computers with less ram. - Good Luck

I smell frazzled Patrick.

You are probably gonna overtax your G3 processor trying to run both Tiger and CS2.
Tiger requires a DVD drive to load and 256mb of ram to run. Add your software requirements on top of that.

Here are Adobe's requirements for CS2. Other than the one that says G4 or G5 only, note the one that says 512mb ram to run more than one program with Bridge.

Does your laptop have the video card needed? And watch out on the activation. You probably get two shots (laptop and work comp). I haven't gotten my upgrade yet so I don't know if it's bios based or simply phone in...

• PowerPC® G4 or G5 processor
• Mac OS X v.10.2.8 through v.10.4 (10.3.4 through 10.4 recommended; G5 requires v.10.3 or later), Java™ Runtime Environment 1.4.1
• 384MB of RAM to run any one creative application with Adobe Bridge and Version Cue Workspace
• Additional RAM required to run multiple applications simultaneously (512MB to 1GB recommended)
• 4GB of available hard-disk space to install all applications (installation of common files requires at least 1GB on primary hard disk)
• 1,024x768 monitor resolution with 16-bit video card (24-bit screen display recommended)
• CD-ROM drive
• For Adobe PostScript printers: PostScript Level 2 or PostScript 3
• Internet or phone connection required for product activation

PD: Tiger is like any previous OS X installation, it amazingly runs well on older hardware and my 400mhz G3 laptop is no different. Now CS2 might be a different story....

I'm gonna install Illustrator CS2 on my laptop tonight (yes, you get two machines per "activation") so I'll let you know how that turns out.

Well, that didn't go as I planned. But to get this out of the way, the installation didn't exactly stop me from installing it on a G3....but something else did.

When I bought the Illustrator upgrade, I had absolutely no idea that you couldn't buy the individual upgrades for the Creative Suite, you could only upgrade the entire Suite itself. So when I installed it the first time (via download), the serial was rejected and I had to call up Adobe and the operator talked me through an "Option" screen process to get it installed.

But he shouldn't have done that - I had to call back again for the laptop and the representative told me what I had said about the Creative Suite upgrade above. However, he was nice enough to issue me a refund (one month after purchase) and all I have to do is fill out a form that says I'll destroy my product. So I gotta delete Illy CS2 from my computer when I get home.

But as I'm on a roll with luck from this weekend, I thought of another opportunity for myself. He may not be able to run CS2.........but I can.

If the CS2 Suite will not install, mein fuhrer is going to have to track down an original Suite (probably still widely available, but he need not know that). If he wants to save some time or avoid Ebay, I so happen to have the original CS Suite that could be transferred to him via the Adobe ownership transfer forms, in exchange for something else, wink wink..........

Patrick, there's just no stopping you this week is there? You'll probably be named the new CEO of Pixar after the dust settles!

Well, we got the upgrade and it has installed okay. But I'm downloading the updates at this time so I haven't run the programs yet.

But on a side note, bring back the old school pre-CS icons! How the hell is Photoshop associated with a feather, Illustrator with a flower, and InDesign with a butterfly?!? Which one is which? What will the next upgrade be, Adobe MG (Mardi Gras)?
