Im new, saying hullo

Hi People :)

I am in Miami Fl. My day job is putting together an event called Graphics of The Americas. Its a conference/expo that brings in 23,000 printers and deisgners from all around the world to Miami FL for a few days.

I've been doing marketing for 6 or 7 years. I actually have a degree in Psych. After working with designers for everything from letterhead, signage, collateral and websites to logos....I decided to try and learn Photoshop. I have the Macromedia suite and the PS suite at home.

I work at night and design logos, promos, business cards, and cd covers for musicians. Pretty simple stuff and people pay me for it so, I'm happy. I would love to be able to do more designing and less event coordination. I just wish I had more time to sit home and read and practice more. Between my dance classes, work and designing on the side, I think I am down to 4 hours of sleep a night.

Okay, welp thats me in a nut shell.

I am looking to make friends with more people like me. Cause I could sooo use advice on pricing and different design and business related stuff.

Well, that and all the statistics courses I had to take for my degree in psych. I took some finite (had an intro to stats), stats I (only took three times before i passed with an "a"), stats II and applied stats/lab. So, between the intro, semesters failed, semesters passed and lab......thats alllllllllllot of stats lol.

Oh my gosh.......this is so neat-oh. So some lawyer, who's a friend of a friend of some guy who saw my work needs a new logo/letter head/fax cover sheet and was reffered to me. I am working on a few things and dont feel like carrying an extra load cause Im at my wits end. So I meet the guy and when he hears I do marketing he goes bonkers cause he needs some of that too. So, once again I am not dying for the extra work because I have too much as it is. So, whatever my friend gives me a pep talk about how I should charge more. So I qouted him like close to 3 grand and he called me back happy as a fiddle and wanted to add a few things to the project.

I am really gonna look into those sites/books you guys reccomended for pricing. Oh well, I guess I will resume on the 4 hours of sleep a nite schedule for a bit longer. But this is awesome. I dont know why but everyone I talk to, even if theyve NEVER seen my work, give me money and sign my estimates/lame contracts.

Okay back to work for me.
