Hey -

This is my newest speed bump.

Every time I make a change to a doc. and try to save it this warning comes up...

"Acrobat PDF file is having difficulties. Unable to open file for writing. Locked or unavailable."

Any clue what's going on with this? I've tried some deductive reasoning but it hasn't worked.

Thanks,
Mark

mac or pc? what program are you making the pdf from? Exporting or printing through distiller?

can you save it with a different name?

Thing is, I'm not trying to save in PDF at all. Just making some adjustments to an AI file and saving the changes in .ai.

I can save it under another name but I don't understand why this warning is coming up.

Edited to add: PC

sounds like an illustrator 10 problem on OS9? Reinstall Illustrator should take care of it.

o, sorry, didn't see the pc thing at the bottom.

I'd still remove and reinstall

I get that when I try to overwrite a PDF that I currently have open. Saving your open .ai *shouldn't* be a problem, but it sounds like Illustrator or your PC's file has flagged the file as being in use and protected. Personally I'd just do a restart and see if that fixes it.

As for your error message, keep in mind that .ai is PDF compatible by default in v10 and higher, so that's possibly why your seeing that.

Sometimes I've got that message from working off a network. I just saved from my desktop instead.
