I like it, but I'd fix the scratchy and high contrast areas. Namely, the younger woman's arm on the left (my left).
Also, I notice the dragonfly over the older woman. I would bring that out more to distinguish it. It's kinda wasted on me, especially upon my first look.

Thanks! I thought the same about the dragon fly, but I like the cartoony looking arm :)
Very trashy punk style, a good composition, i like. I agree with Jackinbox fix the arm, it contrasts too much with the other elements in the piece. It looks like you've used a feathered stroke for the arm outline, maybe just take away the stroke and leave it as a dark area of colour.
The texture in the middle is nice, looks like gouache mud.

I'll post the pic when I edit it. Thanks you guys, I think I am getting better at this! Some of you may remember when I posted that Harry Potter one. Ugh, bad memories, indeed.

I don't get it. What is the purpose of it or concept? I understand it's for a fan site of some sort but why the punk style?

yeah, not too into fansite art or anything along those lines (graphic signatures, etc.)
It's photoshop filtering/blending/effects just for the sake of using 5 million of em. bla. it's fine if you do it, but this is more of a professional work forum, isn't it?
just my opinion.

I am with Keith & JD...
Can't really comment as I don't know what the constrains are.
But composiitionally maybe you could try: (this is only my opinion so ignore me if you think I am talking out of ass - most do round ere anyway!)
1. The arm deffo needs sorting - revert back to how it was before you gave it the treatment.
2. Use that star brush too your advantage, to give it more depth. (ie play with neg space, sizes and densities.)
3. I do like the type loads, I appreciate the way it is kinda raw, you could maybe position each word so they play of each other and the stars with a little more gel, but you only know that when you have played with the stars, but I kinda like it raw like that...
(...it kinda reminds me of a lipstick message on my car window once saying - your dumped! never liked her much anyway!!)
4. Why is the dragon fly there? Either lose it of use it wisely to aid the composition.
5. Lose the paint effect/scan in the middle and compensate with the stars.

I agree, though it's a professional oriented forum, I think it's great to have the youngsters come here to learn. Not all of us though know the ages of peeps here so I hope they can also learn to have a thick skin and take the nice and the not so nice constructive critism. ;)

fair enough... I guess I started somewhere, too
I remember thinking having every single photoshop filter and plug-in would help me make AMAZING designs. ahh, those were the days... I remember making a website about 5 years ago, and I had HUGE rollovers for navigation, and everytime you rolled over, it would have big fire flames all in different colors with a drop shadow and bevels. Wow, I saw that recently and was just embarrassed for myself. :)

oh yeah forgot to say something about the piece.. mmm the background's fine, but I don't like all the effects on the actual girls. Maybe if you just took the real picture and tinted it a different color instead of adding glows and everything to their different body parts

You'll think I'm crazy but the reason I made it a punk style is to keep the memory of Jess Mariano alive, he is a character that left stars hollow...and is never comeing back:( The actor who plays him, Mio Ventimiglia says he is gone for good:(

Are you really only 14 Sailedship!!! I am flabergasted (even though I probably can't spell it) I really am!
As I said the type treatment is excellent. I recently done a job that needed some type that was hand drawn like that and I had sooooooo much trouble with it. Everytime I worked it, it just seemed so contained or just too off key. Also you seem to have a good basic understanding of how graphics programs work. Plus you handled a couple of comments well by reacting in a mature manner.
You say you wanna work in graphics? If you continue to try and better yourself I would be shocked if you didn't make it at a far higher level than us mere mortals!

Yeah, I am 14, turning 15 in 7 days!!!
Thanks! You are too sweet. When I first got adobe I over did it with filters, but I've learned from the folks on this board...that is not the right approach, you must keep it as orginal as possible. It also helps if you have a good idea about what you want to do before you do it.
Thanks! GDF ROCKS!
the key is intergrating filters into a piece without them identifing to the public or population as "filter" effects. There is nothing wrong with using them but, use them sparingly and intelligently... not just to fill the page. Also in many instances simple works more successfull then complex.
Since, the key in graphic design is to emphasis the text through imagery (most of the time). Not to overwhelm the message with the "useless" effects which are not truly needed for the same message to communicate to its viewer(s) effectivly.
Many youngsters and beginers have the intention to overwhelm the text with useless imagery just to be "complex" for the sake of being. When the actually philosphy behind graphic design is to emphasis the text and communication.
Not to say complex isn't effective it can be very. However, using complex imagery and design which does not overwhelm the communication(type) is key to a successfull complex design.
for only 14-15 it looks good.
I belive i was in the 9th grade when i started working with illustrator. Been working with it for 4-5 years now. Never really got into the whole "photoshop" thing. I mean i use it now but, i am more a person who likes to create his own imagery from "scratch". I usually only use photoshop to color correct a pre-taken photo. I never use filters... just as a effect. Only to emphasis key texture within the composition of a pre-taken photo.
Anyhow knowing the programs before you enter college is very usefull. Knowing the technical application is half the battle. Once you are knowledgeable of the application all is left to learn is design and correct practice for the industry. Which is alot... but better then learning them all at once.
At your age i would be more concerned with a emphasis on the techincal application more over correct design thoery. Because of this x, i do think your design is successfull in displaying photoshop tool and apllication knowledge, but lacks proper design thoery to be effective at a "professional" level.
But... don't worry it will all come to together in time. Your still young.
Don't be so anchious(sp?) to grow up. Its not all that its cracked up to be,lol.
from the looks of it you will make a wonderfull designer in time.
