Best image for avatar

I'm having a heckuva time getting a picture down to the specs for avatar. What is the best format and resolution? rgb jpeg?

I think the size has to be 80 x 80 pixels. I'm not sure about the file size. If you're trying to load a big picture I don't think the forum will resize it to the necessary specs. If you don't know how, show me the picture or link to a pic you want and i can get it ready for you. Yes you must use rgb or grayscale and a jpeg or gif are just fine.

The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).

I use "save for web" and save as a gif.

When you are looking at your "save for web" settings, click the "optomize" tab, then the little arrow to the right of the "preset" drop down menu (the optomize menu).

Select "optomize to file size" and enter 19K.

My grandson has captured the prepress posture when I get that Word or Publisher file submitted for color separations!! :D
