For some reason unbeknownst to me Safari has decided to quit OSX 1.3.9. I haven't moved to Tiger yet

I cannot get it to launch so I can't get in and change the preferences to use Netscape or IE instead. I am not having any problem with either of those.

Anyone know what to do? I have only been on OSX since last November and never had a problem until now.

Well, I went to launch it and it will not open. It starts and then hangs.

hmmm. i can't help you there, do you have the original panther install cds? you may be able to re-install if safari is corrupt.

if not...

use firefox instead.

I guess I may have to do that. I haven't had to do any re-installs until now, I guess I have been lucky. I wonder if it has anything to do with the automatic security update that came last week?

Well I know it is a legitimate update (I always check at Apple before I click update.) But it is just the timing I guess that makes me suspect the update. Could be Apple's way of getting me to move on to Tiger LOL.

drop the preferences.. .trash them. if that doesn't work looking for the Cache for Safari. Trash that.

Quit it and restart.

Vikia, you can also try going under Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities and select your hard drive and then run Repair Disk Permissions. Might be worth a try. It has solved some of my problems before.

My Mac tech told me that one of the security updates was the problem. I have them update automatically and he said not to do that until I check with him first. Sometimes you want to let others test the update first. Apparently the one I downloaded last week upset things.

Switched to Firefox. All fixed now.

Apparently the updates screw up javascript for Safari and causes glitches. Also, I wasn't aware that I needed to update my permissions after system updates. So if anyone else has this problem. Try that first.
