Geez louise...sounds like the planets are in alignment and we're all having a crappy Monday. My turn.

I work at a medium sized commercial printer in a fairly large metro area.

Seems my boss wants me to start accepting only files from designers and agencies that can give me files that have no problems...perfecto. I should be able to just stick the cd in, impose the pages (thank God, my job still has merit) and kick out a proof, that will then be delivered to you, the designer, for a quick sign-off and approval and on to the presses. If the file isn't perfect, he says skip the proof and tell the designer/agency that we can't use your file and it needs to be fixed.

As a designer (remember, I'm in prepress) I'm sure you'll be ecstatic that I'm telling you that your job won't work because it's not up our standards of perfection and I'm not even going to show you any proof because it's a waste of time and material...and it's NOT PERFECT!

I am just figgerin out how much my boss really loves me and is trying to make my life so easy!! I mean, I've been imperfect files for 16 years now and had never thought about PERFECT files before.

So come on all you designers out there. Let me hear your LOVE for my boss' idea!!

You see when all the files become perfect, all the printer will need are a few monkeys with paper hats pressing buttons. That way all you gotta do is throw them a few bananas once in a while and they'll be happy chimps!

Just don't tell him about the 'perfect printing' button that the press guys keep hidden behind the ink cans.

you should love this cause then you can reject about 90% of the jobs that come in.

I remember years ago when people would supply us with Postscript files that you could not view. You couldn't see the job at all? I can't tell you how many times those jobs failed--70% maybe. I kinda see the samething happening with pdfs. I see about 30% of those supplying pdfs to send their raw files in for fixing.

I send the raw files WITH the PDF. you can choose which to use.

Yup, that covers the bases. Because ya know if they only send a pdf, then the boss says "Why'd ya tell em to send a pdf!!" Geez, he reminds me of the pointy haired boss in Dilbert! Clueless.
Oh Well, I'm on my way in to work, already 65° and sposed to be 95 today. Today has got to be a better day! Just gotta figger out how to move prepress outside! And ya know what?? We have a full moon on the first day of summer and on Friday, Venus, Mercury and Saturn are all lined up! It IS happening!!

I doubt it. :P I like the quote, "They're camera ready and ok to rip,"
They are already set up. Oh yeah, I'm sure.

No really LOL, it was a tri-fold brochure in quark and it was perfect, sent it straight to the RIP. It was so amazing that I called up the designer to compliment her. Turned out she had spet several years in pre-press. That was the only one out of thousands though. :D
