Should I market myself to print shops or ad agencies or go directly to some business or all three? Should I direct mail them, call them, knock on their doors, invite myself over for dinner? Put an ad in the personals section of the paper? Spam the entire www? Post flyers on telephone polls? Shout from a moving car through a megaphone? Write my web address on money? Spray paint my graffiti tag on freeway overpasses? I'd like to hear some good techniques from some experienced freelancers here.
If I were you, I'd go with inviting yourself over to potential clinets house's for dinner. Just remember to bring a jello mold with your business card floating in the middle of it.
Someone where I used to work got direction that was almost as bad. They had to find a stock photo of a person in their fifties (no problem) that was talking to a doctor (fine, that's doable), and (here's the kicker) they had to look like they were thinking about diabetes.
Can you hear the photographer now?
"Ok, show me 'thinking about a colonoscopy'... good! GOOD! That's it... now, 'thinking about your prostate'... YES! Excellent! And now 'thinking about diabetes'... that's it! Perfect!"
We just need to add "Professional" in front of our titles whatever they are. That way we take the power. I fish, but I'm not a Professional Fisherperson. I play basketball (well sort of), but I can't call myself a profession basketball player. I doubt the family member got paid, and that's what makes up professionals. And I guess we know what we're doing.

It's mostly just un-nerving. You get up in the morning and the chairs in the living room are tipped over frontwards (heavy chairs). Or all the kitchen cabinet doors are wide open. Or our grandson's picture is missing off the mantle and we find it downstairs in the family room. Or all the bottles of shampoo and conditioner type stuff is off the shelf in the shower and lined up on the bottom...UPSIDE DOWN ON THEIR TOPS!!
Just weird shtuff that when you see it, your heart misses a beat or two.

Twice while I've been at work, my wife has called and said it sounds like a foot race in our bedroom right above the living room. Both times the bedroom had been trashed...stuffed animals thrown all about, pictures knocked off the dresser, bedding all messed up. Thats scary.
On the other hand, we used to have a little 5 yr old girl ghost that loved to sing play while my wife was baking cookies, she'd play with balloons (I have video of this!!) and there was even a window in a closed off area of the house that she had done finger drawings in the glass and tried to write her name (have photos of this too). She was released when the psychic came in to rid us of the nasty guy who trashed our bedroom. She felt it was ok to leave. That was the humorous side.:p

About 80 years old.
The psychic found one guy in the family room by the bar and the pool table. There was about 10 of us and the psychic laughed loudly. Guess the guy was backed up to the wall and asked the psychic "Why's evergody staring at me??" He must have been a barkeep cuz he told her his rules..."No beer on the pool table and if you're gonna sit at the bar and not have a beer, go find a table!!" I grabbed a beer REAL FAST!!

Just call the Scooby-Doo Detective Agency! Chances are you have something valuable hidden in your house and someone is trying to scare you away so they can claim it. The next time someone comes to your house - try and pull their face off, it is usually a mask. Also NEVER bend down around Fred, you may get an unpleasant surprise....
