Just to let everyone know if you had originally purchased Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, GoLive & Indesign) you CAN NOT upgrade them indivdually - you must upgrade the whole Suite.
Which needless to say PANCAKING PISSES ME OFF. I bought the Premium Suite because it came with Acrobat Professional and was cheaper than buying Photo, Illy & Acro separately, so I don't use GoLive at all and I'm still a little stuck on Quark. I don't need or want to upgrade these programs, but for some reason Adobe thinks it's necessary to do so.
Anyway, heads-up for anyone else that may be thinking of upgrading.

It is absolutely ridiculous, I already bumped into this. Fortunately, Adobe issued me a refund on an upgrade I purchesed.

that bites, dude. fortunately, I use InDesign and GoLive, so when I do upgrade I won't have that problem. But for everyone else in your situation, I feel for you.
Let Adobe know how pissed off you are.

What really bites is how long it took me to convince my boss that I needed these udates - now I have to go back to him and say, "Well these don't work, but if we spend a couple hundred dollars more we can make it work." For some reason I just don't see that going over that well.

Well, I finally got my upgrades working. I had to go home and crawl around in my closet till I found my old versions of Photoshop & Illy (6 & 8 respectively). This puts my mind at ease for now - but I'm still pissed that Adobe is trying to scam on us. When I called support and told them how I couldn't upgrade the guy told me, "Ya, if you have the suite you can't upgrade individually you must upgrade the whole thing. This is something alot of people aren't aware of." That's nice.

That's strange. My work got to upgrade for other people in my office and I was drooling over the CS2 trace. I went to look at it on the person closest to me. She didn't have illustrator on the machine but she had PS -CS2. My boss said he was able to customize the install and just put on her computer what she needed. It was a standard version and not premium. Is that the difference?

In a somewhat related question
I have an imaging suite (educational version includes PS7, Illy8, Indy1) for my mac, and I want to upgrade to Adobe CS2 Mac Standard...Would this work out fine for me?

Funny, I had a client send in files created in InDesign CS2, which we hadn't upgraded to yet. I went online and downloaded the CS2 for $198 and was on my way. Maybe it's because we're a member of the Adobe Print Service Provider program. Anyway, yep, seems like Adobe is going to start spinning out of control as a mega software company...sounds like Micro whats their name?

Good point about spinning out of control Rickself. Just when I started liking Macromedia products, they sell out to Adobe. If it were not for so many designers using Mac instead of PC, we could all switch to Corel** to send a message to Adobe. Read the Corel license terms and compare that to more arrogant terms offered under Adobe.

Ahhh, Illy 8, one of the most stable Illustrator versions released.
Send version 9 to the bottom of the deepest ocean!
CS finally has user friendly print options!!
