How about "Your Neighborhood" - or "Da Hood" for all you old school players out there.

Neighborhood photos would be good. Mmmm...tractors and cars on cinder blocks. I think I might need to work some zoomage to capture the full scope of my hood...

So I guess it's unanimous, nude self-portrait it is!

How about a photo scavenger hunt? You could make the rules kinda open ended - say "flowers" was on the list, It could be actual flowers, a photo of a Georgia O'Keefe painting, or the pattern on your paper towels.

keith1

Can someone tell me what is the final theme...?

some great ideas here, folks... it looks like "your neighborhood" has the most support at this point, we'll have to keep these ideas on the back burner for future contests.

Same rules as last time?

"Editing software may be used for usual processing (cropping, tonal and color adjustments, resizing), but no outside elements, objects, or images can be pasted, drawn or added into the original image. No elements, objects, or images can be cloned, cut out, or taken out of the original image other than what occurs from cropping."

I like the color theme, i think it could get very creative & interesting especially if we pick an uncommon color, like purple or orange. Not green because everyone will be taking pictures of trees & foliage unless we say nothing in nature.

How about extreme weather?

Kool
07-27-2005, 02:52 PM
True, the only extreme weather we're having here is extreme heat and thats kind of hard to take a picture of. :D

Here's one that just popped into my head... we could pick a short (3 or 4 letter) word, and everyone's photo would include those letters... for example:

"but" could yield butterfly, halibut, butter, etc.

"Through the Windshield Glass: our daily commute and what we saw there"

[Anyone drive a white Rabbit?]

My guess is that even though at first glance, the results might look sorta the same, that the most engaging part as a 'collective' exhibition would be the subtle differences. In fact, at some scale, it might work a whole lot better if we DIDN'T try to go a spectacular 'designer' shot.

Man, I should apply for an Arts Council grant.

while looking through some of the past photography mo's train gave me the idea of

Moving the camera so that the image of a moving object remains in the same relative position in the viewfinder as you take a picture.
it's a little more difficult than flowers but not everyone has one on there hard drive.

How about, 'Scenes from a commuting life'.

I'd like to see what other people see on their way into work.

Even if that's just your neighbours backing out of their driveways for you stay-at-homers.

This morning I had a fawn stumble across the road about 50 feet in front of me. No camera around though. Or momma deer in sight. Gee, maybe it was Bambi!

I can't participate (no digital camera, and I can't afford to develop film for projects), but I will suggest.

Someone on here recently posted a site where they had you print out a picture and take it with you everywhere you went and take a picture of you with the picture. On a similar note, a friend of mine at work a couple of years back went to France, surreptitiously "borrowed" a little Felix the Cat toy I had on my desk (I have a lot of toys on my desk so I didn't notice right off the bat), and photographed Felix in a bunch of different settings...in France. It was great. He e-mailed me the pictures while he was on his trip, and it was really fun.

So...you take your (fun desk toy, favorite hat, unique stapler, etc., etc.) and travel around with it and pose it in different situations wherever you're at.

Mac ... you're part of the borg, aren't you ... admit it.

Um, so, uh .... photo contest ideas ... um ... "spam"? or how about, "perspective" (in the sense that the photo is taken to make small things appear much bigger than they are.)

It's a sad day when I quote the disclaimer on a car's sideview mirror.

I've got an idea: gray.

Why not? Let's get colourblind. November is good for that. Celebrate tonality. Think of the great black and white work that's been done in cinema, TV, print. It's out there. It can be a real challenge and a way to go beyond the distraction that colour throws at us.

for future consideration:

How about the earth one month, then wind, then fire.

Then segue into "Chicago" (anything associated with) and "Blood, Sweat and Tears" (any combination of the three)...

Hows about something really head-scratchy? "Air".

Maybe "interiors". Interior of what? Who knows--that's part of the appeal.

Bald? Hairy?

Vegetable? Fruit?--No, it's not the same as self portrait...

How about just "opposites"? Opposites in one picture...

Guess it depends how far out there this is supposed to be?

Ooooohh, I got one! How about "fried"? Think of the possiblities...

Perhaps the contest can be silliest cat, or weirdest place you found your cat. My avatar is my little girl just waking from a nap on my friend's carseat that he left at our house. Since I just put up the Christmas tree, that's her new place to nap (under it, not in it thankfully).

Edit: Okay, my avatar WAS my cat napping in a child seat...

I want to do something along the lines of City/Town Contrasts. What I mean by that is...

Take a picture of what makes the city/town you live in nice. Then, take a picture of what makes your city/town crap. Put the two pictures together side by side. This will illustrate the vast contrast of that particular city/town.

Well, since December is the end of the year--wait, what about the Chinese calendar--or is it only ritualistic and they use the same as everyone else day-to-day?--how about "endings"?

Seems to be open to lots of possiblities and a chance to use our noggins, since there was disappointment expressed with our literal interpritation of "gray".

Please note that the idea is "endINGS", not "ends":p --I shudder to think of the entries for "ends" ...

In honour of New Year's, why not the theme 'resolutions'?

But I think we should add an additional limitation: all images must be no larger than 1 x 2 or 2 x 1 (pixels).

Who's in?

how about "my city space" ? I mean not shooting 360" around you ,standing in middle of the street, but what is the city for you, what are you stand face to face everyday, begining with touthbrush, same street you are going everyday, public transport, park you like to hangout, friends, sidewalk you rub every day, shoes you are wearing, your workspace and so on... I mean you private city, you space.. what about that?

I really don't know how everthing is going on here , how does the contest runs, where you publish photos and so on,, (A signed in only today) , but I think it would be interesting and closeup to publish your "city space"
