I'm sure that Quark Xpress is a great program, but I don't have it. What I do have is a Quark Xpress file that I need to be able to edit and send to a printer. Both the printer and I are using MS Windows computer and Corel Draw 8. Does there exist a utility which can convert .qxd files into .cdr files? I'm not looking for an expensive and complicated software suite, just a simple little program that will convert the files and allow me to edit them in Corel Draw. I also realise that such a goal may not be at all "simple" to achieve... Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if all you're able to tell me is "nope, it's impossible".

"nope, it's impossible".
Sorry, if you had a pdf, maybe (Corel users step in) you could edit it in Corel, but 8 is an older version.

Ya it won't open in Corel - What you could do is take the file over to a friendly printer or even Kinkos. (Call ahead first to see if they have Quark) Convert the file to a pdf and/or save as an eps. That would be your best course of action. Sorry I could not be of more help.

Sigh... That's pretty much what I thought. I'll try the Kinko's option and see if they can help. Alternately, I might be able to get an eps or pdf of the file. If so, then I'll work with that. I was hoping to be able to convert it myself though... Oh well, that's it then. Thanks everyone for your help, I do appreciate it, even if it doesn't allow me to convert the file! :)

Love your tardigrade avatar SprialBound! (Are you a water bear?)
If you're working with CDraw 8, I'd shoot for an EPS exported directly from Quark, if that's what you're thinking. Use text as curves when importing (too many font probs otherwise). Don't forget that in CD8, this will convert all your CMYK images to RGB. If you have Acrobat, you could extract the images out of that EPS first. Or even just open the EPS page in CMYK Photoshop, crop and save off the image bits for replacement.
