Hey Guys
I have a question about tags in quark.
I am the art director for a magazine and we have our writers use this tag to italicize certain words in there articles <I>word to be italics</I><P>.
This tag when imported into quark will italicize that certain word.

I was wondering if any of you know any other useful tags or code.

My boss also mention something about scripting in Quark, he didn't know much about it, but he knows that you can script with in Quark. If any of you know about that please educate me.

I do all my work on a PC.

Thanks for your future help.

For print, my rule of thumb with Quark and any other program is DO NOT stylize a font if it is not supported in the fonts folder. If it doesn't show up in the drop down menu, stylizing probably won't rip correctly (at least 50% of the time).

You suggest mannually stylizing the certain word?
Or is there other means?

No stylizing (Quark has a palette for this but don't use it).
If you don't have Times Italic don't just stylize Times Roman. If you don't have Cafeteria Bold, don't stylize Cafeteria regular.
Not for print.
If you are using Quark for the web (tho only the gods would know why you would) then use whatever tags you want to make it look the way you want.

Why type code? Too much work. Select text and go to font menu. If the italicized font is there select it and be done. If you have too many fonts to do this efficiently, consider a font management program to shut off what you don't need for a project.

As for scripts, you can use them in Quark. You have to know how to write them. And writing them for PC differs from Mac AppleScript. You may be able to find some generic ones on line somewhere but if you have a specific task in mind you will have to find someone to write it. I'd do a search of Quark Xtensions on www.thepowerxchange.com, or similar site, first. Chances are there is an Xtension already written for what you want to do.

We have our writers do there columns in MS Word. We take what they submit and import it into Quark and set a style sheet. We use helvetica 45 light for the body text(style sheet), and have never had a problem with the italics tag. We have them use this tag, so that certain words stand out. We go to press once a week and everything is done in that one day. We get the book the very next day (Real quick turnover). Without this tag our day would be much longer, so we need to use the tag.
Do you have a better perhaps quicker solution then what we do already?
