Typically how much does it cost to produced a project? For example a one color - 8 1/2 x 11 - fold - 4 sided - 200...+ expense of design time.

I always get quotes from three printers to determine printing costs, then add my design costs which are based on the amount of time I expect to spend on the job before quoting the client.

I didn't say that. ;)

Sorry, re-reading my post it was kinda misleading. What I meant was that you can't just guess what your printing cost was going to be. You should always find out what your actual cost is and go from there.

Hi All,

I found this forum by accident and thought I would join up. I've been in Design/Prepress/Printing for 24 years. Wish I had something like this forum throughout my career.

Printing Prices:

Always get your prices that include Everything....Including Printing, Proofs, Overs, Sales Tax (If Applicable) Shipping, Delivery. Be as specific as you can with Bindery, Folding, stitching, Shrikwrapping, etc. Ask what Pre-Press charges may apply to your specific program. Some Printers may not be able to accept your Scrapbook Pro Files  without charging to fix them. Ask for the Pre-Press rate just in case you want the printer to make minor changes. Make sure you have a quote in writing. :)
