Let me preface by saying I don't have any experience with print media. I have a logo in png format and I need to get it to a "print ready" state. I know FreeHand has the ability to export to .eps file and that's the preferred format of my printer. I also know there's a difference between graphic types vector vs raster.
So on to my question. If I import my png file into FH and then export as a eps file am I print ready? In other words, has the pixel based graph been magically transformed into a math driven image?
Any and help is appreciated.
Thanks,
JayhawkMicah

Opps....if you import your .png file into freehand, then save as an .eps file - you are still going to have a raster image there. The only way to get it print ready (vector) really is to redo the logo in Freehand - then you will have your vector image. I wish there was some better news for ya!

Nope, sorry, you'll either need to find the original (if there is an original) vector file, or redraw it in FH and save as an eps. I wish there was a magical way to do it because I have the same problem right now, and I'm having to redraw a logo in Illustrator.

yeah..once its a raster image, you will either have to find the original vector, or redraw it in vector format to get what you need.
Good luck Jay and Welcome to the GDF!

If you have Adobe Steamline, you can vectorize a bitmap. However, the cleanup time could be as bad as recreating it. Corel has a Trace program included with their Graphics Suite that does the same thing, but the same cleanup is still required. I would not recommend Freehand for print even though it is vector based. The newer versions use RGB screen colors which can cause problems in print. Macromedia products are very web oriented which is good for web design, but not for print. Use Illustrator or Corel.
It sounds like you are new to this. You can build a vector image on top of the bitmap, using the bitmap as a tracing pattern to create the vector. This could be time consuming, but you can then enlarge the vector to billboard size if needed. It is also good practice with the drawing tools.
i swear fireworks is a conspiracy.

Now when adobe is taking over macromedia a new user friendly product Will be out soon , Photoshop is not as easy as fireworks there I think soon they 'll publish a product with blended features of both of the product

Blended product, oh goody! Just when I was starting to like Macromedia, they sell their soul to Adobe. Now when I have a bug in a Photoshop file, will I be able to fix it in Fireworks? I am anticipating the children of this blended family with a wait and see attitude. Too bad Corel does not have more leverage to keep Adobe in check. Maybe Adobe should now change its name to Macrosoft.
