A friend wants to get a tattoo of 'a rose wrapped around a moon with the rose vine going down my arm and turning into a spiderweb.'
Well, I'm sure this rose will be too 'girly' for him but I like the doodle I made. I'm going to resketch the rose and it'l be either deep red or black on the final one for him.
Wow, Madora!
Very nice job!
i love the stem and how it raps around the moon, Very cool.

I like it, I think the vine could be a little bit more loosely wrapped around the moon, you know what I mean? Like its hanging by it, not tightly wrapped around it, but good start... Im interested to see the stages of your process, taking something from a drawing to a finished product through the computer.. I think a lot of people dont draw anymore and it makes things look TOO finished if that makes sense...

Sol - Stages of my drawings:
- sketch things out on paper (typically I will use tracing paper to do multiple versions of particular elements I am not happy with at first)
(for comps/thumbnails only)
- scan in the sketch
- lay down color in photoshop
- lay tracing paper over the sketch and ink drawing onto tracing paper
- scan into photoshop
- color sketch (which typically becomes layers upon layers of colors/elements of the sketch)
- clean up the sketch

Madora,
So you don't put anything through Illustrator or another vector program? Thats interesting... I sometimes do and sometimes don't, it depends on the work Im doing... I am usually laying out wedding invitations/related material so my work doesnt have to really be scaleable, BUT I usually scan into photoshop, then put it into Illustrator just to get it nice and clean, then go back to photoshop to add everything I want to... so do you just spend a long time cleaning up the lines, or what? And what kind of pen/pencils are you using if you dont need to clean up the lines? Usually, when I scan something into photoshop its really dirty, get jagged lines, smudges etc etc. Whats the key to avoiding that then?
Thanks!

I don't put my sketches through illustrator. If it's just me messing around I don't bother.
I just use a fine tip sharpie to trace my sketches before scanning into photoshop. I use tracing paper over the original sketch to avoid any messy pencil lines or having to erase anything after I ink. I also scan at a pretty high contrast typically.
I do spend some time cleaning up spots where I didn't really ink the way I wanted to, but that typically doesn't take very long.
