I'm trying to bring in an XL sheet into InDesign. Is this even possible? Or how do I go about doing this?

I appreciate any help!

PDF from Excel would work...oh, but do you want to edit? Maybe Excel will export as rtf?

Are you using ID2 or CS?

InDesign CS should let you place native Excel files. Just do a File > Place and choose your file. Make sure the “Show Import Options” box is checked when you select your file -- a box will pop up to let you choose which sheet you want to import, whether you want to import it as a formatted table, unformatted table, or tabbed text, etc.

I used InDesign to place dozens of sheets of sports stats into media guides, and it was very reliable. Much nicer than exporting as rtf and messing with tabs in Quark.

Ok it did let me...BUT it changed the whole format of the text (size, font, etc) and even the spacing between the cells.

See whether there's a difference if you import it as a formatted table. That usually preserves most of the type attributes, but I do like to tweak the cell spacing after importing. But if you don't need to make ANY changes to it, then you can just make a PDF from Excel and place it into InDesign, right?

Do you have acrobat? If so you can print to a PDF.

I'm importing an excel file into indesign, but when it comes in it's creating a new cell in the column for each hard return. This happens even when I select formatted table.

Can anyone help me with this?

Check the Help menu at the right end of the menu bar. Search for "import excel" and it lists a whole mess of options.
