We saw this guy while out on the bike trail, and moved him off the trail to safety.
I think he is a luna moth to be... isn't he huge?

yeah, isn't he great? An older man was walking by in the other direction and looked physically nauseaous that I was holding the little guy. I mean, honestly! It's just a caterpillar!
Made me glad I got there first though!

wow, he's flexible! I've never seen one colored like that before!
Looks like he is an "Azalea Caterpillar"... here is some info:
Azalea Caterpillars have unusual defence posture. Brightly colored smooth and black with rows of white, cream, or yellow-green markings. The head, base of true legs and prolegs and last segment are red. Feeds on azalea and grows to approx 2 1/4 inches. Found in the Southeast.
