well i went to a graphic design job interview for this bookstore, they have a in house design team...i had my resume and portfolio ready, dressed in khakis , white button, and a tie..interview went well, but i barely got a chance to talk...the employer kept on yacking about the position and i didnt get to really showcase my design and technical skills...makes me wonder if she was interested in me at all...cuz if she was, wouldnt she ask me a load of q's? but then again, my resume is pretty precise and detailed...so she knows all my qualifications already....liked my work too.....but didnt really ask me many q's about myself...so im kinda thinking she already had some other person in mind to hire...i was just the last interviewee....what do u guys think?http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/dry.gif

the job is coo too! parttime, pays coo, hot chicks...

Hard to say. Maybe, as you said she didn't need much information about you because your resume and portfolio did the talking. It's possible she then wanted to tell you as much about the job as she could.

Hot chicks? Nice...

maybe she is a bad interviewer... that happens.

i feel the bad interviewer! happened to me, yesterday.

her: "so, what are you looking for right now?"
me: "well, i wasn't really looking, actually. my freelance work is picking up, but i interviewed for this position around 8 months ago, so when i got the call from xxx, i thought i'd come in, say hello and introduce myself" (<- to the woman who got the job over me, originally)
her: "but what are you looking for?"
me: "again, it would depend entirely on the position offered. i would hesitate to take a full-time job if it wasn't a good fit for both of us, as i don't want to let you down or promise anything that i can't deliver. i'm very open to a full-time contract - again, depending on the project. saying that, i don't even know precisely why you've called me in here today. why not tell me a little more about the position?"
her: "i just want to know what you're looking for. what do you NOT want to do?"
me: "well, that's a very difficult question. i'm not super-keen on html and coding, but i can happily do it if it's necessary to implement my design work. i find it difficult to answer that without knowing what parameters i'll be working within -"
her: "just tell me what you wouldn't do."
me: "gut fish. i don't want to gut fish. my dad made me do that when i was little, and the scales stick to your hands."
her: "of course not! this is a design position!"
me: "oh! well, now we're talking. so, it's a design position. what else can you tell me about my duties, should we end up working together...?"

one hell of an interview, i can tell you. like pulling teeth. we ended up on common ground, but she just wouldn't give anything away. how do i know if i can do the job if she won't tell me what the pancake it is? knob.

you never can tell. btw - i'm thinking of starting workshops on the art of 'acing an interview whilst being a smart-a$$'. http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/scool.gif

that is actually aggravating me. Cause I am putting myself in your shoes. How ignorant does she have to be. Really.

I had an interview today, with a wallpapering company. It went really well, met with the hr and the lead designer, if I get the call back, it'll be to talk with the manager. they liked my work, and I'm hoping this might work out, good luck with your interview evilryu

thanks guys, u know the way i see it, if they dont hire me, its their loss, cuz the stuff they have the other designers do is cake, and maybe my talent should be recognized elsewhere! (positive thinking) anyways, i get the call back next monday, i'll keep u guys posted...yea the chick in there, shes hot! i probably wouldnt be able to design anything

honestly, it felt pretty freakin' hilarious at the time. the recruiter likes me, but that interview-chick.... she's just on another planet entirely.

yeah, you gotta just see how it all goes, evil. don't sweat it. but, if you want the job, have you called or dropped by or sent an email, just to say 'thanks-for-the-meeting-it-was-a-pleasure-don't-hesitate-to-get-in-touch-if-i-can-answer-any-more-questions'? it always helps.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA! funny, i always hoped that sort of thing would GET me a job....maybe if it had've been the right boob....

thanks perm! i lunched today, myself.... *hic*

i'm glad you're on board there, magnus. as for the classes, well we should have at least a few more students...then i should get a course schedule up...perhaps a prospectus...and i'm real busy these days, what with all of those recruiters to fend off and interviews to attend....where to find the time?....oh! and the parade in my honor and the unveiling of my bust in the park.... gee....

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In

you guys are hilarious .... what a way to start off my day :).

i know a guy who is a consultant for businesses all around missouri. he talked to my husband and gave him some tips for an interview that's coming up. he explained that although some questions seem off-the-wall, the point to them being asked is to see how well you can answer questions. are you direct, or do you talk about the answer and then conclude. uncle carbunkle -- i don't know if that's what was happening with you, but if it was, you failed miserably. if that's not what she intended, then she is looney.

maybe if i tried unveiling one of my breasts i'd get a job ... heh ... they fall out of my bra quite a bit now, maybe i need to get a bigger bra ... hmmm. i enjoy freelancing too much though to work for someone else. besides, if my husband gets this job, i won't be so pressured to make more money. we'll see.
