Remove outlines in Illustrator

I stupidly saved an Illustrator file with outlines when I supposed to save it as a pdf. Now my ai file has outlines and I need to remove them so I can see what I'm doing. How do I do this?

do you mean that you converted the text to outlines and saved it over the original file?

If so, I am not aware of any way to undo it - you may actually need to retype all the text...

if that's NOT what you mean, then: huh?
