Here's my dilemma. I've got an image in jpg format that I'm importing into Illustrator and creating a business card design. Any thoughts on how the imported jpg will print once it's been exported out of Illustrator?

I'm pretty new to this...thanks!!!

It's an image that I bought online. I didn't think about my company ever needing to use print media, as we're a web dev company.

I don't have the technical ability to recreate the image in a print ready media and have never looked into costs of having it redrawn. I was at one point talking to someone about doing work on their site in exchange for the image redraw, but I never heard back from him.

Here's the jpg image and I have png as well:

I would like to clean it up. I can do that on the web, so it's not a big deal. The legs look like crap!!!!!!!!!! :(

Should be easy enough to trace in Illy using the pen. It's not that big or detailed, and there's on minor shading. If you're not that skilled in the pen, this might be a great learning experience.

Hmmm. Any tutorials or anything helpful like that relating to the pen tool that you or anyone else would suggest?

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

i'd start with the help file in Illy. Then move on to Mr. Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=adobe+illustrator+pen+tutorial&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official)

If you're on version 9 or later of illy, I would suggest you place (import) that ladybug and knock its transparancy down to about 20% ...create a new layer and lock the first one...now it's just a case of using the pen tool to trace over the lady bug and filling shapes you make with the correct colours. Other people may suggest using the trace tool, but I won't. (cos (a) I like the hard way of doing things and (b) if using the trace tool seems like a good idea that you haven't already thought about then perhaps learning to get the correct results may take longer than drawing the damned thing...I never use it.)

If you want some advice on how to use the pen tool I have a post in here that may or may not help ya http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8960

Hang on - hasn't he got the image as a PNG as well? Why not try opening that in AI and saving it as an EPS, or if the bizcard is being done in Indesign, save as an AI file.

PNG is not a vector file format...it is raster

I always thought PNG was vector - I haven't used them so am not really sure, but of course could explain why no-one else suggested that route! My apologies.

no need to apologise Eggles, you haven't used the file format so you were just mis-informed  ...my response may have been a bit cold actually
