I have a pretty static image/concept with my front page of my site, I was wondering what advantage I would gain from setting up with Flash?

I am considering doing each portfolio section in Flash, but I haven't really used it before. My web design experience has been pretty limited to designing in Photoshop/Illustrator and setting up in Dreamweaver.

I have a pretty easy-to-follow book on Flash that I thought I'd try to teach myself the basics with. I did a decent-enough job getting down how basic web layout works that way.

What do you think?

Unless you have a very good reason to use flash, there is no point in using it. Newbies to flash tend to fill their site with useless animation that looks herky jerky or unnatural. HTML is still the best way to go for search engine recognition and ease. Besides, you will have to learn a bit of action script to make the movie function as a web site. You should consider using an inline frame for you portfolio page. Then you can have thumbnails of the image and a place next to them to view large size.
