I didn't want this link burried in the other thread.

This is a link to a handy Hourly Rate Calculator (http://www.tortorelladesign.com/calc/index.html), put together by designer Neil Tortorella.

Neil also gives GREAT marketing advice, especially for independent designers, on his blog Inside the Marketing Mind (http://www.tortorelladesign.com/marketing_mind/).

Freelance Hourly Rate Calculator (http://freelanceswitch.com/rates/).

Quite handy and easy to navigate—more or less covers your overhead and profit margin.

If I quit my job and worked full time I would only have to charge $28 per hour. That's crazy. My break even rate is the same as what I get at my day job.

Then I entered in the hours I spend freelancing currently (I work a full time job so my freelance hours are after work and in the weekends only). On that basis I need to charge $173 per hour ideally and $125 to break even. That sounds crazy, but if I found someone to pay that, I could quit my day job and only work 2 half days a week. Sweet!

well buda, thats why mine was so high, because i figured the actual time I spend working. Really it equals out to a couple hours a day and only a couple of days a week. The rest of the time I am here on the computer just messing around.

Granted I own my company and have hundreds of employees that do most of the actual work... so I guess thats why the figure is so skewed compared to what it actually should be.

BTW, I think we should all work on 2 days a week, everyone would be so uch more relaxed and would make for a better world. So go on with your sweet-ness and cut your workload to 2 days a week! :D

Sounds like a plan. I would love to only work 2 days a week! Though I would like to think those other days I might spend 2 of them painting so that could be considered as more work!
