after scanning images which is better option to work on with image editors tiff or bmp ?

I use tif for print work and gif for web.

TIFF would be better than BMP.

Definitely TIFF. As for output, I would elaborate on Morea's advice. GIF and JPEG are the most common to use on web pages. If it is like a photograph with lots of color or blends of color, JPEG is usually best. If it has "areas" of color without blending, like most logos, GIF is usually best.

Absolutly tiff, although some sites will have you convert to jpeg before uploading

When working with RAW from a digital camera, TIFF is the preferred format for storing the image, and from that file again making it JPEG for internet-use.

I would choose tiff than bmp. tiff is the most widely supported graphics file format for printing. Although it is not suitable for viewing in web browsers. The only format that can be easily viewed on the web is the gif and jpg.
