I'm looking for some feedback on my first magazine spread final comp. It's for a travel magazine called Sac-Be meaning "the road" or "path". It's a bi-lingual publication stationed in Mexico so I was trying to solve the problem of two languages for one article. I was shooting for a more fun and new feel, something that would stand out on the shelf.
Cover through final spread:

Cover alone:

I love the highlights idea; the way the bubble acts as magnification, in the final spread. Some very nice stuff going on. The only part I have a niggle with, is the table of contents structure ... seems unneccessarily chaotic, in the way you've used the red and black, to me. I think you can break the different elements up a little better.
Otherwise, a great first comp, I think.

I see you're riding the bubble trend, but I like your application of it here. It unifies the work nicely and demands a thorough interest.

Wow! I've never seen anything like this, Great! I love the light bulb over the cloud which is a picture of the world! I can't imagine ever being that good! Sweet.

I like it alot. nice layout and use of color. It gives that tropical feel to it. the pictures are very crisp. this from an on staff photographer or are these stock shots. Either way they are nice.
I dig the bubble/circle trend right now also. I used it for a campaigh I do at my job and they love it.

I like how you carried the rectangles with two rounded corners theme throughout it.
The white text on the front cover is a little tough to read.

I think it looks great! My only gripe would be the white words on the front cover kind of blend with the background a little making it a little difficult to read.
Looks great. I really like the consistency you've kept with your recurring design elements. My one critique would be that you might want to give your text a little room to breathe inside your pull quote bubbles. A smaller font size would allow you to move the interior text away from almost touching the bubble and would also solve some of the funky word spacing. Or if you have space (which it looks like you do on the second spread) you can keep the same font size, but make the bubble bigger.

on your cover the "M" on "Beach of the Month" is lost in the yellow color, your type is really fighting with your background image.

you also need a barcode on your front page

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'll work out some of the problems.
btw Mynock, it's a free publication...no need for a barcode

ok whatever, but that's not the reason you put one on there. you put one on there as a challenge to your design. it's something that needs to be there, can't be altered, and is unapealing. It's a challenge, but do what you must.

Strange...
If it isn't needed dont use it.
