I realise there's been alot of discussion over the years regarding this "Is design art" etc, but I just wanted to know your views on it.
For instance, do you prefer meaningful design solutions (visual communication in the form of publications, wayfinding, logos etc etc) or art design stuff like installation etc?
Also, what are your thoughts on conceptual versus technical, that is having the creative idea and applying it technically, only having the creative idea but not knowing how to utilise it (through use of programs etc) or simply having the technical proficiency (knowing the programs, prepress etc but not necessarily having the creative/conceptual skills)?I realise both are necesaary
Given I'm at an art school, we are taught more about the concept rather than combining it with the technical stuff. Which means once we leave (some of us) we don't necessarily have the technical skills as experienced in the real world.
