2 printing questions

I have two printing questions if someone could help me out!

1. I have a booklet that is going to print at the end of the day. The whole booklet was done in Indesign, and it is CMYK. However a couple of the ads in the booklet where sent by outside sources that are included, but PMS colors were used. When I go to Preflight, it says CMYK, and 10 Spot Colors have been used. Do I need to convert all of the ads to CMYK before it goes to print?

2. If I am preparing a one spot color job (PMS 349 - gross I know!) but have to include 3 headshots, which are all CMYK. How do I change it to the spot color? Or do I just change it to B&W?

Question 1. Talk to your Printer!!!!

Most printers that still use film or go direct to plate can convert any color space...RGB, PMS as CMYK before output providing their RIP supports the conversion. Some Printers, however have output devices that print Separations and may need you to do the converting for them.

Question 2. Again, Talk to your Printer

Some Printers will accept an entire PMS job as a single color black with all photos Grayscale. Other Printers may want you to choose, say Cyan as the channel depending on how their output screens the images. If they use traditional screening methods they will want the halftones to be screened on the cyan channel for smoothness. Other forms of screening....Stochastic or Staccato will depend on the individual Printer’s preference.
