Hi I have been contracted by a client to produce a leaflet that is 495 in width by 210 in height the paper is then folded to produce 5 panels on each side making a 10 panel leaflet.

Each panel is a similar size to a panel on a tri-fold brochure there is just more and folded in a different way. I think it would be 5 x 1/3 of an A4 page.

I am using freehand for the job and was wandering if any would have a similar template I could use for the layout or could anyone give me advice on setting it up so as it all folds evenly when sent for print.

It would be printed on a 250 gram matt art so would imagine that the folds would eat up a little of the paper.

The actual design I have in mind does not bleed onto the edge of the paper as the client wants a small white border around the whole thing including each panel, which makes my life easier as it would be a bit of a nightmare to get the bleed right for each panel.

Also when I send the job to the printer how do they know what way to fold the paper our would they know the standard, the same as the example the client showed me?

I hope this makes sense and someone can help.

Thanks, Jonny

You might want to talk to the printer first on those white borders. Thin ones make it damn hard to trim and hit with folds.

As for folding, the best thing you can do is create a printed mock up of exactly what you want. Even if it's just inkjet and the color is off, or even if it's black and white, it will help prevent confusion.

Cheers for the fast reply PrintDriver I will talk to the printer about the white borders.

With regards to the mock up I only have an A4 printer so can not print the size required but I guess I could scale the artwork down and still fold the paper the way I want so as the printer has an idea of how to fold it.

Does anyone have any ideas on templates for this sort of layout. When I say templates I dont mean artwork just guidelines so as everything lines up correctly?

Cheers,

Jonny

After contacting the printer they should tell you that the folds with borders will be very critical. If your fold is a barrel fold or wrap around (panels folding into panels)--If this is the case 6 of your 10 panels need to be a different size so that the panels can fold in while keeping your borders even.

Thanks for the reply's,

I have seen download links for tri-fold leaflets that have all of the guides set up does anyone know if there is one available for the 10 panel fold leaflet I am producing?

There may not be a stock template for your brochure. Maybe if you state your final folded size and what kind of fold (EXACTLY) you may get some answers on how to set up your template.
