hey i hope this is the right forum.

Where does everyone get their royalty free, and acutally FREE photos? I have been using sxc.hu but its a nussance always getting people permission to use their photography. I also use Morge File, but thats about it other than taking my own pictures. Are there CDs i can download/ buy for a cheap price, or what do you do?

I have used http://www.istockphoto.com for a year or so now... for $3 hi-res royalty free shots it great. And while there are some crap photos in there... theres alot of really really good ones to balance it out if you have a bit of an explore... Thousands in fact...

Getting permission to use images is part of your job as a designer.

If you don't want to do the footwork yourself, use Rights Managed and pay the fee.

If you want to use free/subscription stock that everyone else uses you get what you pay for. And so does the client who hires low bidder.

A quick note about those 'collection' disks...Read the fine print. Most will state that while you can use the images, YOU are responsible for any infringement of publicity, trademark, or copyright holdings that may be in the images...
Most of them are collections of public domain work which, if you looked hard enough you could find for free.

True....

But its still an ideal way to get good images regardless. Obviously its important to read the fine print, but rarely will complications from copyright arise UNLESS you blatantly disregard obvious limitations...

I just saw a SXC.hu picture of a lady, on a corner isle display at the grocery store, I bet if the photographer new that shit was on display like that, they would be quite angry...

sorry to be off topic....
