Oh god, I know it's corny to use Aloha but just can't help myself... we sign a lot of things with that here!

So hello there folks, I'm Alane, 27 years old, 17 year resident of the Big Island and 9 year veteran of graphic design. I just recently switched jobs from working as the resident graphic designer/web designer/webmaster/tech support girl/resident know-it-most to working full-time as a web designer in Hilo. But not to give up the designing for print I'm currently killing mysel....er I mean... freelancing as a graphic designer and illustrator

When I was growing up... well, when I was younger - do we ever really grow up? I never imagined I'd be going into graphic design or living by my art... always said nuclear physicist 'cause I liked the way it sounded. But then I graduated high school and it was time to go to college. I got a job at the university graphics department while I was getting my degree in Art. After 5 years there I had good training in Photoshop, Illustrator and Pagemaker and got really lucky finding a job at a local graphic design/ad agency (not many design firms, mostly single person operations here). That's when I met Corel. *pause for the sharp intake of breath and looks of horror* Yes, that's right, I use Corel... please don't throw rocks at me. Hahhaha

Just found this place recently and figured rather than lurking silently I might as well introduce myself, then lurk!

Welcome to the forum. Nice to have someone from the Big Island here - my favorite island in Hawaii. My long-range plan is to eventually live on the Big Island for about half of each year.

              Thanks Kittie!

Great place, I love it here! Of course I dreamed of escaping to The City but then I found out I really like my small town... folks move slower here. Are you looking at the west side or east side Jeff?

Much prefer the west side - probably someplace between Kona and Capt. Cook. We've looked at a couple properties in the past with a couple houses and coffee growing on them. Hope to get serious about it in the next year.

                      Thanks Kool!

Good for you Jeff! It's a lovely area! There is this place called the Coffee Shack that makes a Rueben sandwich to kill for... well maybe just maim... Mind the traffic though - better not be in a terrible hurry to get anywhere in the late afternoons!

Hey D, thanks! Hehehe yep, this place will do that. Been out there to AZ to see the Grand Canyon in 05... it was so weird not to see the ocean!

Hmm well I've go something else to share.. this place is becoming an addiction... great, there goes another hour out of my 6-hour night! hahah

I also love Hawaii, I'm looking forward to visiting in a few months (just Oahu this time for a football game of all things). If you ever want to swap studios for a few months (I'm in Alaska) let me know!

As the inner social butterfly emerges from it's crysalis "Woooooo!"

Hahah EC, shoot... do they let us do that?! Hmm, we could start something new here - the Graphic Artist Exchange Program... Hahah! I've wanted to visit Alaska, my aunt was up there recently and said "You really get an idea of just how small you are there." She thought it was just gorgeous. Have a great time there on Oahu, don't have any tips for that island.. other than if you get on the #19 bus at the airport make darn sure it is not the one heading for Hickam... I speak from experience. Heh.

Hi there Riya! Thanks much! Ah yes, Computer Crash - the result of the old UHH Graphic's PowerMac (named Mr. Freeze) freezing and destroying all my work for the 10th time in the space of an hour. So rather than destroy school property I fantasized about it. I've been wanting to redo that one - you know, clean up the lines and make a reproducible image out of it but I've failed to capture that feeling again. I should go see if they still have that computer and want ot get rid of it.... Well well Mr. Freeze, we meet again... buahahahahahah

Vintage is a very broad term. Vintage could = Victorian or it could mean1970's. I hope that you and your client narrowed nailed down the vintage era they are looking for.

Yum. I do love salmon sandwiches. The bakery near me do great smoked salmon bagels. It's not a bagel shop so they don't jack up the prices.
