  • Hello everyone, I have one question...

Hi everyone, I have been a "Graphic Designer" for almost 10 years now but I dont have any type of college degree in graphic design. I learned graphic design by myself since I had my first vinyl plotter, I had my own sign business when I lived in Puerto Rico and have a lot of experience with full color arts for printing etc etc. but when I moved to the US 2 years ago, I have been without luck finding a job without a graphic designer degree.

I have been doing some other type of work non graphic design related, but I recenlty got a break in designing 2 logos, brochures, business cards, letter heads, labels, stickers and everything for a big healthcare company that are now expanding.

My problem is that I dont know how much to bill them for my work. I have already designed their logos (3d effect 2 colors), brochure (full color with medium graphics), 2 types of business cards, labels, name badges, and still working in other things for them. I need to get paid. BUT were do I start?

I see prices for logos from $xxx- $xx,xxx depending if is a small business or a corporation, also different prices for brochures. I never talked about prices, but I know they had in mind paying $xx-$xx per hour for my work, but I want to make a package for them.

Any idea how much should I ask for my work? the reason I ask is because in Puerto Rico graphic design is cheaper than here on the US and i dont want to damage the market.

    Any help will be apreciated

Also, pricing discussions aren't allowed here. THIS thread explains why.

Damn I just read why pricing is not allowed. If someone answer my question thru private message is that ok?

Pricing is so subjective that it's impossible to get a pricing schedule from some other random designer and apply it successfully to your work. Pricing is affected by: skill level, location, type of work, type of clients you want to attract, etc.

You're better off getting a hold of the GAG handbook, or simply going through some of the links Garricks gave you.

The best thing for you to do is to get a copy of the Graphic Arts Guild (GAG) Guide. There's plenty of information about pricing there.

I couldn't give you pricing anyway, what I charge in St. Louis won't be the same in Florida. Too many variables.

I will say you've put the cart WAY before the horse, completing work without a signed contract that specifies remuneration.

Does the fact that I still haven't changed out of my Halloween costume make me dirty?

No, just lazy. You have to work it to be dirty.

cdesigns, HERE's the book we're talking about. And, I'm not endorsing or not endorsing Amazon, disclaimer, just linking you to what the cover looks like and the current edition, which came out this past September.
