Hey, GDF! I'm Dan and I'm no good at introductions. I'm sure there's something interesting about me, but I usually forget about it. Maybe that's interesting in itself? Well, I'll share my deets and then you can decide if they're interesting.
I reside in Louisville and I've been a freelance designer since my former employer went out of business last August. After getting a decent degree and a decent bill for that degree, more entry-level work didn't appeal to me. My real dream is to be a filmmaker, but that's not terribly accessible or profitable, so I've decided to pursue some kind of career in graphic/web design. I'm slowly learning my way around.
As for my inspirations, I'm highly influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright and Ralph McQuarrie. McQuarrie has been a favorite since early childhood, when my parents bought the "Return of the Jedi Sketchbook" for me. Wright got in my good graces because my 7th grade English teacher was obsessed with him. That was actually weird, but Wright's work was really cool for its clean, straight lines so it really grew on me. And it probably helped that there was a connection between Art Deco and the concept work done for Bespin on The Empire Strikes Back.
Personally, I have a wife, two dogs and a cat. I really like airplanes, a little bit of fishing, Cincinnati Reds baseball, Kentucky basketball, film history, and learning in general.
As for life experiences...been to about six major concerts. The first four were free, because my dad's company throws a major party every year for employees with perfect attendance. From those parties, I've seen The Beach Boys, Huey Lewis & the News, Heart, and Gretchen Wilson. The ones I actually paid to see (that were awesome as hell) were John Williams conducting the Cincy Pops and Roger Waters: The Wall. Also, the $5 Colin Hay concert I saw in Dayton, Ohio back in '07 was pretty good, too.
Famous people I've met: Chuck Yeager, David Prowse, Thomas "Biff Tannen" Wilson, Kevin Pollak, David Alan Grier, Mark Curry, Dave Coulier, Kevin Hart, Rev. Vito Aiuto of The Welcome Wagon, several KY basketball players from the 90s, Tyson Gay (went to high school with him)
Aww, now I'm getting boring and that's kind of my life in a nutshell! Thanks/sorry for bearing with me!
