Hi everyone. I've been doing graphics of one sort or the other pretty much all my life. But now I've decided to try and make a career out if it.

I don't have a portfolio yet, most of what I've done is fliers, banners, posters, and a few wallpapers/backgrounds. I'm also an amateur Web designer.

My first challenge is figuring out how to price my services fairly, without selling myself short or asking too much...

    Any advice?

Hi Can0dope, while we can't discuss actual prices here and before you start offering freelance services, do you have the skills?

You freelance only after a good number of years in the business. Some say a minimum of 5 years, others more. Contrary to popular belief, freelancing is harder than a regular full time design job. You have to be an owner, a sales person, an accounts person, marketing etc. Just knowing some design basics is not enough. Not something for a beginner. Once you have some experience under your belt, you will know how much to charge, how long a job takes and how to deal with clients professionally.

If you are serious about being a designer, look into how to become one.

I'm not sure I care if someone shows a landscape or portrait version, or whether it's bound top or side.
What really does matter is does it show the work to its best potential. If I'm looking at...

Exactly Garricks. Personally I don't think she would but I've learned you can't really trust anyone. That's what I did, I set the pdf options to crap, non-printing security on it and sent it directly...

What is it you're worried about, that she'll take the PDF and bypass you for printing? When i send stuff (other than to my vendors for production) I always use smallest file size. Looks fine on screen...
