I made up for last week. I have a good amount of stuff to share and give my opinion on. Let's start with the typical movie reviews.
Shrek 2
I love this film. I was a fan of the original one but I didn't really get all the hype. I thought Monster's Inc was a lot better and Shrek did NOT deserve the Oscar above Monsters, Inc. I have to say this film is better then the original. It is funny and has a lot of inside 'grown up' jokes that go right over the little one's heads.
The story takes place right after the first. Fiona's parents in Far Far Away are going to have a ball in the honor of her and her new groom. Her parents are thinking he is a handsome knight that saved her from the tower and broke the spell that makes her an ogre. Well we all know the turth and what happens is quite funny. Most of the supporting cast from the original Shrek is there including Donkey (funny as ever), the Ginderbread man, the 3 pigs and Pinocciho. There is also a great new character called Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) and he is a great addition. I hope to see more of him in the next one (cause you know after the amazing haul it took in this weekend, there will be a next one)
The animation is top notch. Looks beautiful and you can see improvements from Shrek. The story is very good as well. Better then expected. There is a lot of hidden things that is funny to look at. You will need to keep aware to catch a lot of it. Far Far Away is really Hollywood and looking at the Stores that is suppose to be Rodao Drive is humorous (like Gap Queen). The music is great. There is a good amount of pop culture music in it (like Living La Viva Loca) that make it very entertaining and relevant.
I would go see it this weekend, highly recommended. Cool poop +.
On a side note, they are getting VERY close to making humans look real. Usually in CG anaimated movies (like Final Fantasy) the humans look stiff... well you can see in this movie it is getting scarely close to looking 100% real.
House of Sand and Fog
I finally rented this after hearing great things about it. I have to agree that it is pretty damn good. Brings up a lot of issues in today's world.
It starts Jennifer (my boobs are great) Connelly and Ben Kinglsey. Connelly is a woman who's husband has just left her and she is very devastated. She lives in her father's house on the shore line in California. But because of a county tax glitch she looses the home and it is put up for auction (all over $500 to boot, that she never even owed). Well the house is sold to Kingsley who is a former high ranking officer in a Middle Eastern army (they never actually say from where, or I didn't catch it). He is working many small jobs to make a living. He saves up and buys cheap homes at auctions and sells them for a profit. So you can see where the conflict of interest comes into this senerio. You truly feel badly for both characters in this story. Connelly was wronged and Kinsley is just trying to make a good life for himself and his family.
It brings to light a lot that is wrong in this country and how this stuff can happen. The system is not always perfect or right and sometimes it doesn't always work. the ending is very tragic and sad. Acting is top notch. Connelly has come a long way from her days in Career Oppurtunities (not that there is anything wrong with that movie, horse scene!). Kinsely is an amzing actor and deserves any praise gets.
Cool poop for sure!
Now for something different, but sort if the same. Most of you know I live in Orlando, FLA. Well we have annual passes to Universal. This weekend they opened the new Mummy ride at Universal. Friday night was a passholders night. They opened the park up at 8pm till 1 in the morning. So this was our chance cause after that... 2 + hours wait will be a given.
Mummy Ride
This is built in what was the old Kongfrontation ride, which I am dissapointed they replaced cause it was a classic. But times do change and they have to keep up with the competition. This ride was billed as a cross between the Spiderman Ride and the Rockin Roller coaster. In that aspect I would say that is a very BROAD discription. It has aspects of both but I'm sorry to say it isn't close to either of those rides.
Let's start in line. Very cool. First you have the technical aspect of the movie. They show you a lot of behind the scenes stuff with Brendan Fraser and other stars of the franchise. As you get closer ot the actual ride it shifts to a mummy tomb like atmosphere. With trinkets and surroundinds that really look like your in a tomb. It's a lot of fun to look at. As you get on the ride, it holds 4 rows of 4 you and have a lap bar that holds you in very well (boys.. .watch your nads!). The first part of the ride is slow moving, like a carnival ride. You go through a cavern with animatronic mummys popping up, a lot of fire and fog. Very well done setting the atmosphere. Then you go into a room and you stop dead looking at a wall. Soon all those flesh eating beetles cover the wall and then (this is a good part) you get moved BACKWARDS down a hill. Very cool! You turn and now here it comes! As you climb a hill you know it's coming but it is very dark so you can't see anything. Then it hits and you are MOVING! I know I caught air a few times! A lot of drops and turns. Very fast. Then you enter this room and get some talk from the Mummy himself and above you is a ceiling of fire! VERY hot! You shoot out again in a steep drop and then fast turn and you are now at the end.
Was it good... most certainly, great... no! Why? WAY TOO SHORT! The whole ride is, maybe, a minute long. If I would have waited 2 hous for that I would have been pissed. It has a very cool concept but I just think it is too short. If you wait 30 minutes.. MAX it is pretty good but anything over that would be a waste.
B+
Shrek 4-D
Another ride I finally got to do. Lines are always too long but this time... 15 minute wait. Excellent and I have to tell you.. best 3-D/4-D ride I have ever been on. Some people asked me what 4-D is. It is basically the idea of having interactive stuff that coinsides with the movie. Example: Shrek stomps the floor, you feel it in the chair. It is used in a lot of the attractions around here (Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, A Bug's Life, Muppet's 4-D). But, by far, this is the best one of that genre of attractions. It takes place right after the movie (so you can say a short time between the original movie and Shrek 2). Lord Farquoot is back, as a ghost and he is trying to kill Fiona so they can be together. Well we all go on the ride with Shrek and Donkey to save her. It is a blast. Funny and entertaining. I'm sorry I waited so long to try it. Like I said, there is alot of the 4-D stuff. You get wet, you get shook up, you feel air, it's all pretty great. The 3-D is fantatic, this stuff just gets better and better. If you come to the park I would hit that one first. You won't be sorry.
