• Our Sites and GDF - Pictures!

#1
Hi Every one!
After my post last night about as to why i don't like/appreciate/allow advertising on GDF, i thought you might be curious as to what GDF and our other sites look like on our end. So i have attached a picture of our computer rack and servers. Pretty neat stuff, labeled for your convienance.

It is kind of neat to know that when you guys are on GDF you area actually only six-eight feet from my desk, talk about neighbors coming over for a visit!

THe outgoing I hardly ever get full bandwidth becasue of all the users hitting the sites, but nearly all the incoming bandwidth is all mine and it is so fast it is almost scary. I am hoping in a year or two having a DS3 (10mbit) in my office.

Hey Allen, do you know the specs of all the different lines? Like T3, etc. Isn't a T3 like 12 T1's? That would be so awesome. I'm still on 56K, but I should be getting DSL with a year (hopefully in the next few months).

T1 = 1megabit or 193KB per second each way at the same time. (kiloBYTE not kilobit). 56k (as in modem) is 5.6kilobits per second. Some people call a DS1 = two T1's (3megabit), a DS3 is roughly 10 T1's and so on.

Most DSL is inthe 500kb (kilobit), i havwe seen as low as 128kb and high as 1024kb DSL

Hmmm... I don't know as much as I thought I did. What is the difference between megabit/megabyte and kilobit/kilobyte? I know that 1024 kilobytes = 1 megabyte.

C:\DOS\RUN

a bit is a single bit (1) and a megabyte is a million bits a kilobit is one thousand bits and a kilobyte is one thousand bytes. A byte equals 8 bits (everything is rougly except a byte being 8 bits, Binary math notates a byte as being 8 (0's and 1's (on and off) are added and are based on 8 - 0,8,16,32,64,128,256,1024,2048,etc).

Do a google for the definition of each for a more complete answer than my blathering above.

PS a megabit is a million bits and a megabyte is a million bytes, bytes are 8 times larger than a bit (8 vs. 1)
