I'm much too old to have any one "favorite" anything, but I like rock/fusion/metal that's thick and complex. I lean toward instrumental stuff, and love the product of articulate mega-guitarists like Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Joe Satriani, Buckethead, Fabrizio Leo, and others.

Legacy tastes sometimes closer to mainstream (but never all the way there) include acts like Queen, Jean-Luc Ponty, Frank Zappa, along with Rush, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, etc., some of which I realize reads like a typical American gray-beard hard-rock menu, but most of the hits typically associated with those names would most often be passed over for deeper album cuts. I hate the idea of "standards" that every cover band plays. The last thing I want to hear is a song that me and everyone have heard a million times.
I'd rather be killed than come to your party, but if you don't invite me, I'll kill myself.

I would struggle to get it down to eight genres - I like all kinds of music but I dislike a lot of stuff for various reasons.

        Classical is another list.

From this list you can probably tell I was a teenager in the 1970s; Off the top of my head these are the artists / groups that are important to me - some for a few albums or songs, some for the whole body of work.

        Magma
        Slade
        The Clash
        Led Zeppelin
        Frank Zappa
        The Arctic Monkeys
        Royskopp
        The Black Crowes
        Muse
        Pink Floyd

I listen to everything, the genre just depends on what I'm doing. I'm usually listening to country (real country, not this new country-pop B.S...) But, if I'm working I like to listen to folk, americana, EDM, house, indie - really anything that inspires my creativity.

You want a program that is used to dealing with vector axis data. Photoshop would probably be inappropriate.
