  • Hawaii here I come.

    #1
Well, wedding bells are ringing for me this week. I get married this coming Saturday (28th).

Thennnnn.. WE ARE OFF TO HAWAII !!!! I cant wait. My fiance' knows that we are going to Hawaii... but I havent told her any other details. I want at least some of it to be a surprise. I am looking forward to going, and open to suggestions on what not to miss from any of you who have been there.

If I can find access in Hawaii, I will post from there just for fun.... Ohhh, I will make a GDF drawing in the sand for you all.

Ummm... I cant really tell you yet. My fiance reads the forum sometimes, and it would be just like her to try and find the answers here.

Hopefully I will get to post from there. I can probably tell you on thursday.... she wont have time to read this then.

        sorry.

I lived on Oahu for two years and my best advice is to bring lots of money, if you think you have enough then probably double it LOL. That place is super expensive. So I will recommend some free things you can check out. If your going to Oahu a great way to spend a day is to go to Sacred Falls. Your hotel can give you directions to any of these things. It's about a mile and a half hike (very easy, no hills) through the jungle alongside a shallow river up a canyon and it ends at one of those straight down for a couple hundred feet water falls. Since you'll be a bit sweaty after this hike you can take a refreshing plunge into the pool at the base of it. A night time drive up Tantalus drive will give you the best view you can imagine of Honolulu's city lights. The Vally of the Temples is another great way to kill a couple of hours. If you can, be sure and drive up the Like Like (pronounced leaky leaky) highway. It leads up a canyon until you come to a mountain and then continues through the mountain via a tunnel. When you emerge from the tunnel on the other side of the mountain you will be greeted with a sight you will never forget. If you want to try some snorkeling Hanamua (SP?) bay is your spot. If you get tired of white sandy beaches head over to the west shore (the one nobody ever mentions) It's all volcanic rock and features thousands of tide pools full of cool marine life. If you do visit the west or north shores be very careful if you decide to enter the water. The waves are brutal and unless you really know what you are doing they can really mess you up. This is the island I'm most familiar with but I visited all the islands. I don't feel like typing a full tourist guide but if you want to PM me I can recommend some stuff for the other islands as well.

Kools got some great info on Oahu... I just got back fro ma cruise in hawaii two weeks ago. I personally did not like Oahu, but we only stayed in Honoluli on that island. The only thing worth seeing there was Pearl Harbor (but check out Kools points of interest). Honolulu was very commercial. It was just a big city, and Waikiki beach was FULL of homless people. I was quite surprised.

The island of Kawaii was very beautiful (but all the islands were). If you go to Maui, I highly suggest going to Lahaina. Its a cute town on the island, not a big city. I loved the feel of it. If you make it over to Hawaii, check out Hilo. That town was great, and has the active volcano a short ride from there and has been making some rumbles the past few weeks. I hear driving up to the top at dawn and watching the sunrise over the mountains is beautiful. On the other side of the island was Kona, thats where we went snorkling. You must go snorkling (if not in Kona, I hear Maui's got some good snorkling, too). Theres a big reef off the coast of Kona and the fish swim all around you. We also saw about 30 spinner dolphins here, just showing off. It rains 365 days a year up in the mountains so there are always rainbows and rainfalls coming down the mountains.

Have fun, itll be impossible not to have a good time. The locals are amazingly kind. If you get outta the city, everything's not too expensive. Try all the fruit. Youve never tasted anything with so much flavor before! And at night, look up! The Hawaiian islands are the most isolated islanda in the world and you can see millions of stars. Dont forget sunscreen! (Its expensive there!)

Oh, and bring something to do on the plane.

Ok, thanks for the tips.... and keep them coming!

Jackimalyn, I never though about the fruit, or the stars thing.... thats gooood stuff. I will be sure to take her out for a romantic star gazing. I plan to go snorkling.... and we really want to parasail, but I'm having a hard time finding a parsailing offer on our Island. ): - we'll see.

Yeah, I have no idea what to do on the plane.

Congratulations cnic! Enjoy your special day, and best wishes to you and your wife-to-be. (Hi Mrs. Cnic!)

The honeymoon sounds great! I've never been to Hawaii, so I can't offer suggestions, but I'm sure you'll both have an amazing time.

Yeah the fruit is amazing. You've never really tasted a pineapple till you taste one that was on the ground the day before. I don't know what happens to them between the time they are picked and the time they reach the mainland stores but the difference is like night and day.

Morning, I thought I had clicked into the wrong place too. I do like the latest topics panel in the right. I notice that when I go into a thread that has a lot of posts, it takes a few clicks to get to...

I feel the text is fighting the symbol. Either a different typefeace or different proportions would do good. They are too close as well. Especially on the one below.

Go for Wacom. I have the Bamboo and I like it. Though I haven't tested out any of their flasher tablets, Bamboo is a good starting point.

I haven't heard of the other brand you mentioned....

Get a bamboo. It's cheap and really good. Be prepared that it takes 2-3 weeks to get the precision you currently get with your mouse and then it will improve beyond it.

Thank you for the welcome! Well, I have wanted one for a while. The mouse is just too slow and inaccurate for me. You can't get the detail in the drawings that I would like. As it is my first venture...

This is very ambitious. It's so hard to answer you in general as there is just so much material to cover. Perhaps if you ask smaller questions or show us what you have done I can help better....
