I suppose by definition, brownies would more qualify as a cake than a pie, but I agree that they're a different kind of culinary treat altogether. More closely related to cookies in my opinion.

Now I'm really not a chocolate fan, but I can eat a whole pan of brownies no problem. It's more the rich texture that I absolutely love. If the contest included brownies/cookies as a separate category, I would have voted for that over pie. I eat cake and enjoy it, but it's so not at the top of my list of favorite sweets.

Brownies, Mmmmm - Nuts or No Nuts?

I heard from the internet that cake is made from fetuses. THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

              And speaking of nuts...

Why did the physics teacher run away with the chocolate treat tray?

              He wanted to demonstrate Brownie-in-motion.

                I'm a pacifist, so I vote for both. I've never met a dessert I didn't like.

But if I must chose, I'm going to have to go with pie.

I have no problem de-classifying brownies as cake. Mine never seem to make it to the cake-like state, usually succumbing while still in the bowl, barely mixed.

What's wrong with cake? Fruit cake. . . chocolate cake. . . Lemon drizzle cake. . . Battenburg. . .Ginger cake. . . Pie is too pastryish. I might change my name to Grumpycake.

Cake is awsome, but it can so easily go wrong. It's not cake's fault, it's the people who make it.

Pie! But how about savoury pies? We don't eat a lot of dessert pies in New Zealand, but the meat pie is king!
