Hi! I work for a 40+ year old company that has had a pretty static brand. The logo incorporates a family crest that goes back hundreds of years. It is very complicated, lots of elements (lions, chains,...

      • My sister asked me to make some overnight bags for my nieces. I sent her a variety of patterns and she picked out the first one for overnight bags, this one for backpacks, and this one purses.

These are the first set of overnight bags. She picked out the simplest pattern and I made it as difficult as possible. The zipper pockets, open side pockets, and small zipper pouches with clips were all my additions, along with the piping edging.

The oldest one (3) picked out the green yarn for the hats when I was home for Christmas.

            • Those are awesome Disney! I wish I could sew. Sewing skills have literally been passed down through the women in my family for generations. Seems to have skipped over me.

                • OMG!!!!! Love it!!!! Fabric is perfect for the bag, and I love the additions you made too! The little hat makes it all perfect!

I wish I could sew like that! I usually give up after picking out the pattern and the fabric. Then I get home, and procrastinate till next week. Then I actually cut out the fabric to the pattern, and I'm either missing an essential tool to make it easier, or I get lazy. Then I have the fabric pinned to the pattern for about a year before I find it tucked behind a box in the closet. THEN maybe 2 years later I'll finish it to prove to my self I don't give up. At that point though I really don't want the stoopid bag Ij ust use it to show off to my friends. Then everyone who sees it wants me to make them one.......

Replace key words to apply this to any other project ever and you've just described my process, too.

This is exactly what happened. My sister saw the tote bag I made last year (posted in this thread, I believe) and has decided I can make her all the bags she wants.

Everyone at work knew I was making these and two of them have requested one after seeing the finished project.

                      • LOL! My thing is now if people ask me to make them something is I tell them to buy the fabric (or material) and then I'll make it. Most of my friends are just as bad at procrastinating as I am, and either forget to buy the materials, or wont.

After Christmas, my sister asked for the website I have knit and crochet items on. You have to register, so I uploaded everything to Shutterfly. (What was I thinking?) For each project, I listed the materials and time - in month/week increments. I may have only worked on an item a half hour a day, but I put 2 weeks in for the time. I don't know if she did anything with it.

                              • ^ I hate trying to track time on projects, I try not to think about it or it would totally depress me that it's been 4 years and god knows how many hours on one of my stitchy pieces that still isn't done!

With crafting an hourly rate just doesn't work... cause no one wants to spend $500 on a bag or whatnot.
