  • What search engine do you use?

    #1
I gotta admit back in the day, I used Alta Vista as my main search engine. I haven't used it in about 15 years. But I'm a major Google fan.

So just curious. Who here uses what search engine?

    You can select multiple choices.

Actually my curiosity was peaked by watching a film and on a mobile phone it clearly showed BING on the screen... so wondered who is influenced by these things and perhaps switched because of seeing this on a show or film or any other reason?

Oh ffs never put Bing in there! Sigh. Any chance mods?

I used Alta Vista too back in the day. Then I used Yahoo because I liked the portal. Now I always use the googe. It just works.

In the past, I used Yahoo, Alta Vista and Ask (Ask Jeeves). I don't think I've used anything but Google for several years now.

            Found it, Ms Dewey

It doesn't exist anymore but the link shows what it was like.

              I always used Mamma.com
Then something happened about 5 years ago and it didn't return results the way it used to. Sadly, now I use goople, which I dislike for an untold number of reasons.

I didn't really start using the internet until about 2004-5, so by then, Google was pretty much cemented as the go-to search engine. I have serious reservations about what looks like their increasing lurch towards monopoly. In fact, I deleted my YouTube account when they started demanding that account holders have a G-mail address, which is something I refuse to do. My own e-mail is on a service created by high-minded nerds who deliberately started it in objection to Google's using your personal info to send to advertisers. But The Goog built themselves on their search engine, and it's the default, so I use it. If I knew of one that was supposed to be better I'd use it.

The last time I updated my flash player, I somehow downloaded Chrome as well, which is odd.

If you opt to do a custom installation you can uncheck the extra downloads that come with a lot of downloads. Yahoo or Bing toolbars were pretty prevalant for a while, but now I've seen Chrome sneaking in there quite a bit these days.

^ Yup. Ask not what search engine you use, but what search engine uses you.

                            Anyone else use Google secure?

Also, I'd like to get some ideas on how to really piss off search engines. I'm working on a secret one that I want to make public, but I also want the engine bots to punish it with the lowest ranking possible. Not because of what it contains (which is all PG and non-threatening), but because it doesn't play well with their plans.

                            Any suggestions?

Duplicate Content, lots of 404 errors, keyword stuffing. Go nuts lol.
