13 Going On 30
I thought we would try something different from all the action flicks I've been seeing. The result, one of the funnest movies I have seen in a long time! Hey, alot of it is based in and about the 80s... the greatest decade ever! Basically it is Big 2 (or a remake). Same plot, just updated. It's fun and funny and just enjoyable. Jennifer Garner plays the main character and she pulls off comedy very well, which is a true test for her since she is known to be a tough chick.
The story is simple... Jenna (Garner) just turned 13 (the year is 1987...great year) and she has all th typical problems a 13 year old has...so she wishes to be 30 and with some magic dust provided by her friend Matty (Mark Ruffalo) she wishes to be 30, but unlike Big she fast fowards to being 30 in 2004. She is the editor of a big time Fashion Magazine and is feared by her employees and not so nice of a person. Matty and her have since lost contact (till now, when she seeks him out). You can basically fill in the rest as it is formula... but it is fun getting there. It is not overly sappy, so dudes can handle it and chicks love it.
I just love the 80s references. Jenna is a HUGE Rick Springfield fan...as I am (but in a different way...she thinks he's hot). One of , what I call the funnest movie scenes ever, shows why the 80s are so superior. There is a posh party thrown by Jenna's magazine for all the city big wigs and it is failing big time, till Jenna asks the DJ to put on Thriller by Michael Jackson. It is a big hit and everyone is doing the Thriller dance and having a blast... cause that is how it would be! It's fun music for a fun time. Hoot of a scen,e the the movie audience I was with loved it!
This is most certainly great cool poop and if in the mood to laugh and have a great time...go see this movie. Especially if you grew up in the 80s.
Kill Bill V1
Finally rented this! I'm not a huge Tarantino fan. He's up and down with me. Liked Jackie Brown, hated Resevior Dogs and never saw Pulp Fiction (yes, that is not a typo). But I heard great thing about this movie so I wanted to see it.
It's good... I like it. Was great fun. Didn't take itself too seriuos and the story telling flowed nicely. The martial arts are fantastic. I want to know more about the Bride and it makes me want to go see Volume 2 in the theatre. for those of you who don't know her is a brief layout, without giving anything away.
Uma Thurman is called the Bride (or Black Mamba...her codename). She was/is an assassin that obvoulsly crossed her boss, Bill. So Bill puts a hit on her by her fellow Assassins. She is left for dead on her wedding day but survives and wakes up 4 years later from a coma. Now she wants revenge. There you have it. We are taken through her quest to find Bill and she has to go through the other 4 assassins on the way.
The pacing is nice and the background on all the characters are interesting. There is even this sequence that is done in animation and it works nice with the movie. I'm glad I rented it and hope to have time to go see Volume 2, which I hear is great also.
Cool poop!
Next week I hope to see Envy, my wife loves Jack Black and Ben Stiller (I am also a big fan of both). So it seems liek the perfect movie. But Man on Fire looks great aslo...then we have Kill Bill 2. Jeez so many so little time.
