      Lately it seems that all these famous and talented people whom I've never heard of are dying. I mean no disrespect to Etta James, but I had never heard of the woman until today. A few weeks back some writer named Christopher Hitchens died and, likewise, it was headlines for days, but I knew nothing of the guy.

      It's not exactly as though I don't listen to music or read books — I do both all the time. I can't figure out how I completely overlook these people until they're dead. It leaves me wondering what other artistic geniuses I've managed to ignore in my cultural ghetto and who I won't know a thing about until the BBC and this forum announces their deaths.

        I don't know her music much at all ... but she did "At Last" which is an all time fav of mine .. that is the only way I knew her <b>.

            Pan, I think I fall victim to the same thing. I kept seeing her name in the news yesterday, and was thinking who is this lady, but as soon as I heard "At Last" it hit me...
