For all you non New Yorkers, which is alot of you. I was on the Empire State Building over the weekend and I snapped a few shots for you guys.

These shots where taken from the observation deck about 1000 feet up in the sky. I took them with my Canon A300 and didn't have a zoom so this is the best I can do.

This is 34th Street if you look to the right you'll see Macy*s. Yea it's the whole building that takes up half the block.

Now this is the east side. Across the east River is Queens and if you keep driving you'll eventually get to where I live but it's pure suburbs after you leave Queens.

    This is the West side.

Looking uptown. That big chunk of Grass is Central Park. If you keep looking you'll notice fog, yes fog or smog NYC is very polluted.

NYC streets The second picture is by 42 street Times Square. My wife was getting annoyed at me taking all the useless pics. She kept telling me I looked like a tourist. I was like I don't care and if anyone looks at how I'm dressed or talks to me they won't think that. Anyhow women always win so I didn't get much more shots for you guys. Enjoy!

Benjo, those are awesome! I've heard NYC is an awesome city to go see. My sister was there a few months ago.

In your pics of the cityscape, where would the trade centre buildings have been?

Yea I've been to NYC many times. It's about a 45 minute drive from where I live, 32 Miles to be exact.

I live on Long Island matter of fact let me find a map...

        Okay I found one

On the left is Manhattan. That Island that is almost connected to the main land on the left is Manhattan. On the right where Queens and Brooklyn are that’s all Long Island. Queen and Brooklyn on in Long Island but they are so famous people don't realize it's all on one Island. I'm about half was down them middle of Long Island you see where the Rail Road line is Burgundy and it says, Pinelawn, Deerpark, Wyndanch that’s around where I live. I live in Brentwood the next station over from there. It's almost a completely Hispanic neighborhood I live in. We even have our own Puerto Rican Day parade out here.

Magnus I forgot to bring in the shot of lower Manhattan. I’ll bring it in tomorrow and post it. I didn’t like the way it came out cause I don’t have a zoom but he skyline looks great so I probably should have brought it in anyway.

I was thinking and man I need a professional or at least a prosumer Digital Camera. I’m going to PR in about three weeks so I’ll have plenty of new pics form my Native Island. But my wife wants to go back up at night. Man I have to have a good camera cause I want to get a lot of night pictures at a near perfect quality. The Skyline is completely different at night. Every building seems to leave there light on it makes for an amazing picture.

No problem. Actually I'm going to upload them to stock exchange. I get alot of free stock photos from there
and I feel this would make a nice contribution.

The Full-Res ones come in at around 1.4 megs each. Just think of the cool as wallpapers you can make out
of these. Actual size is 2048 x 1536 at 180 DPI, thats three mega pixels.

I'll let you know when I upload them so you have the real thing. Unless you want to use just these for now.

The photos are nice Benjo. Thanks.

I've been to NYC once... and HATED it. The air was so icky! I didn't have a cold when I went, but after a day of tromping around The City I got back to the hotel room, blew my nose and it was BLACK. I was so grossed out. All day I knew the air was a lot ickier than i'm used to, but that was royally gross.

I went to the Statue of Liberty, that was neat (didn't get to go up in it cause it was closed though). I saw 'Ground Zero' (it was a few months after the Trade Towers fell... that's why the SoL was closed). I visited Central Park, Times Square, Macy*s, etc. I think I saw most of the 'major' touristy stuff there and visited a couple clubs recommended by other rugby chicks (I was there for a Rugby tourney on LI, but we came a couple days early and took the train into NYC to see stuff).

I had fun and saw some neat stuff, but I would never want to live there... and probably won't be going back anytime soon.

Oh, the rugby tourney was in Rockville Center... or something like that.

Wow Madora that sounds like a bad experience. I do admit that once you hit NJ you smell oil in the air. But I guess we are all used to it by now.

Nope, that's in NYC iirc. We stayed somewhere on Long Island and took that MTA (the train thing Benjo posted the map for) into The City.</div>

Eh, guess I'm just used to that fresh country air. Also, the recent collapse of the Twin Towers I'm sure probably had something to do with some of the ickiness in the air.</div>

Awesome pictures Benjo. I get vacation time after November, and I'm already planning a trip to NYC. I have some friends and family up there, and I'm dying to go. I've driven through the city, but never got the chance to hang out there.

The job I have now, I was told over 400 people had applied for it. There's a ton of competition out there. If you're passionate about it and never stop studying it, you can be good. Best way to get ahead...

Oh yes, left-hand binding. I'd never do it along the top. Awkward.

A flexible set-up for your portfolio will be more efficient in the long-term IMO. You will be able to customize your portfolio pieces to the sector for which you are applying.

I would say landscape portfolios are pretty common. +1 for binding on the left-hand versus the top.

Demand? No. The market is over-saturated. Just curious, what is it about Graphic Design that interests you? Why do you think you want to pursue it?

Used the pen tool to create strokes as the outline, then once it was time to tidy up, i converted them all into shapes. Was this a bad idea? there also is white areas for instance on the jacket, it's...

Honestly, from where I'm standing, there is no demand for more designers. This isn't to freak you out, but I think schools recruiting for your dollar may tell you otherwise.
