  • Selling the calendar

    #1
In this thread we can discuss how the calendar is going to be sold.
It's going to be a website you can order from right? I think these two payment methods should be available: PayPal and credit card.

How much is it going to cost?
How much is shipping going to cost? (both inside and outside USA)

There should be a downloadable press-kit available on the site, so that anyone willing to use advertising space for a good cause can use this kit.
Who is going to make this kit?

Who is going to be in charge of PR/support?

OK, we can figure out shipping at this stage, but we can't figure out how much the calendars are going to cost until we know how much these are going to cost to print and cost of the cases.

I think the website is a good idea, and hopefully we can get some press to help sell them since it's all going to charity.

Who is going to make said website? Should we all go to local businesses and try to get them to stock them? I mean, I know I can get some copies for my friends and family but I don't know who to contact beyond that.

carter- any ideas on how to get some press?

What about alumni associations that people might be in who are designing the calendar? Would that be a selling outlet?

Just send press releases to major media outlets.

press releases sound good, maybe to local newspapers as well?

I work at a college so I can post an announcement on the local online message board. That usually generates some response. They're a good community. Especially the charity part.

I think a press release to all local cancer, child cancer and brain cancer charities could be a good idea also.

I bet there are a bunch in ever country. I know we've got about 3 charities.

Very good question, Lula. Since this is entirely 100% for charity, we have no capital to pay anyone, so we need to find somebody to do it pro-bono. Unless somebody on this forum jumps in to offer, maybe a multimedia school will take it on as a class project? Does anybody have any school contacts?

Or... Can we just volunteer Fredrich for bringing it up?

I don't mind doing a site pro bono if someone will do a logo! And the gdf community needs to decide on a general plan of action, in other words, are we going to do this each year and then donate the procedes to different charities? etc.

Okay Fredrich, I guess that means you're off the hook.

By the way, I love your avatar, C.E.! (just my usual off-topic interjection)

So you can do that online payment processing thing and all, too? I sure hope so, 'cause I hate that kind of stuff.

That would be very cool... I could do something in the logo department, if that's all you need...

Yeah I can setup just about any format we decide, but I do think it needs to be decided upon by the community in large. I mean, I dont need to setup an entire shopping cart system if we're just selling one calendar, even if we do it annually. Then we need to discuss the payment stuff - who's in charge of the money? Is there a paypal account (or something else) setup for this? I'd prefer NOT to be in charge of the money - I'm not so good at that. hehehehe but I can configure it to work that way. Also, I think we need to have a little marketing behind it. Obviously we need a name for this effort, something more than the "Graphic Design Forum Calendar" because I think that would alienate those outside our little world that might want to buy a cal. (like, who the hell are the GDF people? etc). Something we could easily transfer to a domain name, etc. Should we start a new thread for it?
