    I can’t wait to go fulltime on freelance…</o>
    </o>
    Right now I work at a publishing company. For some reason I have three bosses, and also have to oversee our magazine dept. I NEVER get heads up on ads, catalogs, etc, and always have to bust my butt getting the fargin’ thing done. Just had to do a 48 page catalog in two days, along with a mailer and an ad. </o>
    </o>
    Today—no different. Got pulled away by one boss to move boxes of books, then yelled at by other boss for neglecting the new catalog. Worked on catalog, got 6 pages of new products done only to be told to change formats. “No problem,” they said. “You can just cut and paste.” I explained that you can’t just cut and paste into new fonts, etc, you have to go back through and re-apply the style sheets and stuff. And then was told that I already was informed of the style change yesterday. Check e-mail. Nope. Well, I guess I wasn’t paying attention well enough, because when I asked yesterday about the format, I was told that the format was the one from last year, which I went with.</o>
    </o>
    Must go get beer or something. Cigarettes aren’t helping.</o>
    </o>
    Why is it that almost ALL people I’ve done freelance for have been happy and grateful, but the place I work for is always super demanding?!!? Well, to be fair, not always like that, but seems like most of the time it’s like that.</o>
    </o>Luckily, I should be able to go full freelance soon.

    Sorry about this. I know I'm new here, but I'm also very frustrated.

      the soapbox is definately the right place for it. sounds like you work for assholes. it happens that people, in all industries, become undervalued.

      keep records, keep beer close by, and keep your cool. if you have everything documented and do a stellar job, you can't be blamed for not being superman (just as long as you're still super-designer). if they throw a wobbler at you, calmly tell them to grow-up. maybe not in so many words, but f'real.

      people will treat you like sh!t as long as you let them. and not all 'freelance clients' are nice. some of them don't even pay. now THAT sucks.

      quit your job, steal a winnebago, and start cruising 'round north america. pick up all the dissatisfied gdf'rs and start a convoy to boobie island.

      hope things look up tomorrow.

        Well, the annoying thing is that there are other designers there, but they can't use computers. They work with outside designers to implement design that they do by hardcopy. Since I know the programs, it's assumed that I can have something dumped on me and get it done in a couple of hours. Truth is, I can get it done, but it will look like crap. So it's either overtime or just let it slide and look kinda half-assed.

            I totally feel you on that with your job situation...

              Yeah, it sucks bigtime.

              Here's part of an e-mail I sent to the bosses yesterday:
              [b]
              It really help with these projects, especially catalogs, if I could get a clear picture of what is being done. Right now I am still re-doing the work that took me all afternoon yesterday to do. I realize that I should have double-checked, but I did tell people that I was basing it on the Fall 03 catalog and got no response that it should be different. The newer layout is in different fonts, sizes, boxes, etc., so it isn't a simple cut and paste issue.

              I really want to make these catalogs look as good as they can. I think the video catalog really suffered in quality because of the timing, and I hope this one doesn't end up the same.

              I don't like slapping text and pictures together and then saying, "fine, at least people can get the gist of what we're presenting." I can do it, but I don't think it's a good method.</BLOCKQUOTE>

              The video catalog in question was a 48 page catalog that I had to do in 2 days. And, yes, it sucked.

              The response? No response from one boss, other boss chewed me out, saying that I had been told what format and stuff. *which just ain't true*

              Uncle, that Winnebago is looking mighty sweet. Have to rig 'er out with a plush interior, then start cruising for babes. "Hey baby, mind if I check your overprint preview? 'Cause it looks like you got a little sumpin'-sumpin' showin' through. Damn girl, your skin so smooth you don't need no gradient map. Mmm-mmm!"

                    Um... ok.

                    But, seriously, I wonder if I would get arrested if I marched into a bar and used some of my great GD pick-up lines.
