  • The Company I Work For...

    #1
So, I learned the other day that the company I work for stole their logo from someone else (before i got here) The logo we use is absolutley AWEFUL. So are the ads, all of our marketing materials, our website is HORRID, and they wont let me do anything about it. BecauseI have a feeling that my bossis scared that everyone else is going tolike my designs better.(she madeall ofthe previous ads, web, ect) To make it their logo, they took the origional, and added some words. It made me SOOO MAD to hear that they didnt make it themselves.

The reason i found out is becasue I was designing an ad, and the words in the logo wernt exactly working, so i photoshoped them out, and my boss said i couldnt do that, because that is someone elses logo. Just another reason i want out of this hell hole. What should I do? They have to know that what they did was unethical!!! I am in the process of finding a new job right now. I would LOVE to report them to someone, and get their sorry a$$es in trouble. Unfortunatley I do notknow whos logo the origional is.

It could be that their logo is just similar to someone else's. I'm sure, for example, there are several companies with their company name in white sans-serif type in the center of a red circle, but that's not exactly stealing. I would definately get down to the bottom of it, though. Have lunch with your boss somewhere and ask her, point blank, if there is an ethical situation there, and walk if there is. Your name could end up tarnished as a result of this...

One time I was doing a logo for some construction company and they wanted something unique designed. I created something quite original, not quite fully presentable as of that period, but it would be the great acorn that would sprout...blah blah blah. Anyway, they rejected it and came up with something on their own, which it took me quite some time to adjust thanks to their frequent changes (I think it went back and forth no fewer than eight times). Anyway, I hated the logo because it reminded me of something, but I didn't know what. When my friend and I were eating lunch a few weeks later, I looked back and saw exactly what it was: the logo was a rip-off of the Lowe's logo. >_<

I look at logos all the time for ideas, with so many logos out there, I wonder if it's possible to really create a new one. I mean...dont GREAT minds think alike?
