So our lovely GDF member Kink was nice enough to forward me a job posting, and a friend of hers that will take my resume in for me personally. Yay! Well, as we all know, life has a nice way of balancing out the good with the bad.
So I haven't updated my portfolio or resume in 2.5 years. I have a bunch of programs and brochures that I wanted to put in it, but some are longer than the 11X14 inches of my portfolio, so I came up with these nifty holders that I mounted on some grey textured cardstock.
Anyway, I had some other things to mount, but needed rubber cement. Mine dried up..so I run down to Business Depot...AND THEY'RE F**KING OUT OF STOCK!!!
So I try a glue stick...and it won't work because one of the things is printed on coated stock...I tried white glue...Aaahahahahaha! Yeah right! It wrinkled and puckered....
I finally got some...a day later than I wanted.
Now for my resume...my old one was laid out quite well, simple and the overall look was pretty professional. However, it needed updating, obviously. I go to use quark on my home PC, and it turns out I had a beta version of 5.0 that expired. I tried to get a few other versions of Quark 5.0 but I am guessing that it won't run on Windows 98 (yes, I'm behind a bit on my home PC). So I'm starting to cry.
But, a good GD'er knows how to trouble shoot or find other ways around it, so I type it up, revised and save it as a text file. I figure I'll bring it into work tommorow, format it then pdf it in quark, and send it to Kink's friend via email, in case she doesn't have Quark 6.
Well, Quark decides to crash at the end of the pdf process. Running a few other print jobs with pdf's imported into quark also makes it crash. I tried saving the quark pages as eps files, then bringing them over to the PC, then importing them into Quark 4 THEN making pdf's from that, but they turned out like poo.
At this point I'm crying again.
So, I emailed them to a good friend of mine who is an RGD, to see if his distiller isn't being stupid like mine. He reads over my resume, tells me it looks great, and sends me the pdf back. Yay!
Now all I have to do is get in touch with Kink's friend, which is turning out to be difficult...
