The degree only helps to get your portfolio looked at if you are applying exclusively for a graphic design job. But if you are applying for any other type of job that might use graphic design as a secondary...

Well, I not very sure if his PhD is graphic design or another field of art. I'll only know that when I speak to him. But yeah it does sound snobbish.

I honestly don't care, I just want someone...

A PHD in graphic design sounds a bit snobbish, like something you would need to be a graphic design critic/columnist, not to be an employee in the real world. When I think PHD, I think six figure income,...

  • We have a small office of about 10 people, 3 of whom don't drink coffee or tea (the Keurig can brew just plain water). My boss pays for the brewer, and the employees are basically on their own to buy the k-cups, sweetener and creamer (or powdered milk as we do). To lease a coffee maker or coffee would be more expensive for my boss.

      • That's so cool, Typ! I'd love to design a book cover, but it's cool to see your stuff in print either way. lol, I still have a few newspapers in which my ads have appeared. Congrats!

My book arrived yesterday too! Not one I designed, but one I've been waiting for. Anyone else read the Wheel of Time books? My roommate bought me the newest and last in the series. I stayed up half the night last night getting a jump on it - it's massive! Yay books! Hmm, speaking of, anyone know if we have a book thread/book club?

Nice job Typ! I did a cover for a book we printed a couple of months ago. Nothing fancy, but it's still pretty cool to see your work on something other than business paraphernalia.

I got up to (I think) the fourth book about 20 years ago and it kind of lost my interest. Looks like they're still cranking them out, maybe I'll have to give them another shot

Not sure if there's a lease fee, but we don't buy the coffee brewer, just the coffee.

Is that how it works for most places?
