Reply to How to choose a scanner?

I agree, the Canoscan is a good scanner -- especially for the price. I've bought a couple of Epson Perfection V700 Photo Scanners for work, and would do so again if they're still made. They've been very...

Yep, like I said, freelancers who are hoping to work full-time for the company for which they are occasionally freelancing are unemployed designers who are freelancing until they find full-time work.

The "freelancers" are basically there to be called in if a big project comes up and they need the extra hand, and these are designers hoping to get a full time spot at the company.

  • Maybe do the 3 pills at different intervals. Once the drool machine has drooled itself out.

I have no experience with cats by the way. My expertise is with bunnies.
It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?" Winnie the Pooh

    • That's what I'm thinking. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow and see what he says. This medication is a shot in the dark anyway.

        • rats got this email this morning (sent to me at 8pm Friday)

"Brian, after reviewing agenda and attendees I think it would be very beneficially to have you attend.

Please confirm you can make it. "

This is for a 3-day meeting in California next week. They had a month, as of last week I was not needed so I figured all was cool. Save a little stress on the family. But I don't want to look bad by not going.
          Sheesh.

            • Just outside my office are two super wealthy member ladies bitching about nannies.
I've heard similar yakking before--I think I have mentioned it.

One of these ladies is, for some reason not keeping hers, but is trying to find her a new family, but is giving instruction on "how to deal with her".
One the one hand she is being complementary about how great the nanny is. Then is REALLY vocal about telling the prospective new employer to lowball this "wonderful" nanny. "don't offer her $xx cause she'll just want more the next year!!!"

They seem to think that having her as a "live in" nanny is doing the nanny a favor. Meanwhile the nanny is married and has her own place. The only reason she is "live in" is so the nanny can take care of kids waking up in the night. Instructions were made that the nanny's husband is NOT allowed to visit the wife during the week --there was no implication that he was trouble--just that they don't want the nanny having a life Monday-Friday.

              The nanny cooks and cleans.
These **$#$#s are complaining about how "hard" the economy is.
They don't ****ing work. (well, they all seem to either be "Realtors" or "Interior designers" in name only).

Somehow size of their homes came up. 4000 sq FT and 4500 sq ft.

I swear these ladies would feel totally at home running a 1840s Mississippi cotton plantation.

The woman that was trying to place her nanny with someone else did something that infuriated me the other week.
Some small children were running/playing in the hallway outside my office. This woman and another mother were trying to get the kids to go some other place. This ******* woman used as a strategy--the warning to the kids that the "man in that office was getting mad and he was gonna yell at them".
So instead of giving these kids a REAL reason to move along (or just discipline them like normal people), she decided it was better to make me out to be some "mean/scary" guy.
The kids were little (2-4) and weren't bothering me at all.
              Heresy is a victimless crime.

              • omg.
if you want to give me a hard time about being 15 minutes "late" (even though we don't have set start times here) but then when you make a big deal out of the "monday morning meetings" at 9am you then delay them until 9:30 (which is when I usually arrive) and you can't understand why I'm in a "bad mood". Really? Really?
                *head desk*

Nah, I just left my house way early, takes me twice as long to get here b/c of rush hour traffic for 9 as it does for 9:30 (seriously it's weird). And you wonder why I'm surely and otherwise displeased? Hmmmm... I wonder too....

I would have immediately corrected her in front of the kids. "Mrs. Beeyotch, they're not bothering me at all. I looooove hearing little feet puttering around!" *big cheesey 'pancake you' grin*

                    • *sigh* I have to have my cat put down tonight. I hate having to do it, but he's in a poorly way. Sucks. Wish him a safe journey, wherever he's going. I'm not very religious, but I like to think he'll be going to keep my dad company.

                      • sorry to hear that KW. hoping the time before and after will be calming for you both. it sucks to have to do that but we were close to that with ours earlier this year. and it was something you hate to do but know it is for the best.

your cat looks a bit like our cat, except ours is heavier and we don't keep him in the fridge. earlier this year he lost a ton of weight and didn't eat. Thankfully he took enough pills to start feeling better.

                            • Yeah, Jake quit eating last week. We got him on medication Saturday, but it's extremely difficult to give him pills. Plus the main side effect of one was loss of appetite. The medication was a shot in the dark anyway, and he doesn't seem to be responding. I hate to do it, but it'll only get more uncomfortable for him from now on.

And we didn't always keep him in the fridge, he just liked to get in there, honest. He knows where we keep the cheese.
